Im guessing DX 10 will come out with Vista so mid-late 2006?
air2k5 said:DX10 supposebly a software mod, you can update dx9 cards to it, I forgot exactly maybe somebody here knows better.
Cali3350 said:All current DX cards will work with any DX10 game. They wont support its features though.
This info comes from the comapany media papers that I am not allowed to show but support is there.

The current cards might be compatible with Vista, but VISTA isnt going to be ONLY DX10, at least i doubt it, it might release at the same time, but i doubt M$ will limit their market like that (Speculation on my part).
And AFAIK the current cards do not support DX10.

Vista will ship with both DirectX 9 (which contains all the backward compatible stuff (dx8,7,6, direct draw etc) and DirectX10 which REQUIRES DX10 hardware (non exists yet) and will not be backward compatible.

i sense cypher19 getting burned...LOL
Am I missing something? Whos forcing you to buy a DX10 card?Komataguri said:Thats ass
There is no way they can force you to buy a new card for DX10, and buy a card for all the games previous to it.
northrop said:From what I heard, motherboards will have to be DX 10 compatible too.![]()

forcefed said:You're kidding right? You'll be forced to upgrade to drm-up-the-ying-yang vista just so you can play in all of dx10's glory? What aboot us winxp users?
W4ngsta said:i sense cypher19 getting burned...LOL
It won't work like that. DX10 is NOT backwards compatible with DX9, and a seperate rendering system from DX10 has to be developed for DX9 just for cards that don't support DX10, which is EVERY SINGLE CARD ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOWYou dont have to buy a DX10 card. Your card will still run DX10 games. It will just be forced to run in DX9. Just like if you have a DX8.1 card and play a DX9 game. It forces it into DX8.1.
i sense W4ngsta in a state of idiotic denial...LOL
Yep, and a DX10-certified case will be a good idea as well. Want to stay up on the current technology.northrop said:And monitor with HDCP.
And just like that, you have yourself a whole new system.
wtf fuck are you talking about? are you lost in space? jesus fucking christ.Cypher19 said:Yes, it's because it's not only DX9 that has gotten extremely bloated, but most of Windows as well (including the driver system). DX10 is incompatible with WinXP. Because of this, devs will likely be supporting DX9 for 3-4+ years (the 3 year mark will be for the, with respect to min specs, really ballsy devs, e.g. how Battlefield 2 requires PS2.0 cards)

thats the codename.Sloth_Boy said:I thought microsoft ended the DirectX marketing name, isnt avalon now?
Cypher19 said:DX10 may be shipped with Vista. I imagine that DX10 compatible cards will be out around the same time, hopefully before the release of DX10.
Who the hell told you that?! First off, ONLY DX10 cards with work with DX10. Not even X1800XT's and 7800GTX's will be compatible, and will be forced to used DX9Ex (previously known as DX9.L). DX9 cards cannot be upgraded through a "software mod".

I am a hardware reviewer; I don't send links I make them, LOL. Remember that whole FX-60 thing
I will have to put that in my sig somewhere. Anyhow, it was in a conference call presentation and I am not sure how they would feel about me posting it. I tried to find where someone else posted it but I was unable to. Right now there is not alot of talk about it and in the PDF it was more of a foot note. I was just trying to truthfully answer your question.
