uhh, I have feeling something is wrong here... I have 2 instances of F@H running as services at startup with a monitoring program (the one made buy an [H]er, forgot what its called) and they are both working.. just insanely slow (aka, not really that useful). Any ideas?

Couple of thoughts-

what protiens are they?
in the log, is there a SSE BOOST OK line?

If they are 600 pointers, and SSE is off somehow, yea that could almost be in the ball park.

Also, what else is running on this box?

curses! marty posted in between the time I clicked on this thread and the time I ht post...

/agree

If memory serves (its at home, I'm at work) I think they're just 400 points each, and I'm pretty sure I checked to make sure the sse boost was on. Its definately not a problem with anything else running: there IS nothing else running that doesn't absolutely need to (well, except explorer.exe, but well, if THAT'S slowing it down, I may as well quit folding on it, heh)

A problem I had was killing the power on a box (not shutting down Windows), the folding program would start and run w/o SSE on when the box was started again.

This basically doubled the time to do a WU.

You will definitely need to check out to see if SSE boost is on or not. My PIII 700 at work could do a 600 pointer in less time than that. It's taking about 193 hours to chew through a 228 point Gromac right now.

If this is the machine that is in your sig, you only have 512MB of RAM. Those big workunits take a ton of memory and running 2 in 512MB could be iffy. Check your memory usage, I'll bet you are running at > 512MB.

are you running the "-local" tag with different machine IDs and directories?

just making sure. turn on "-forceasm" too.

He can't just add the flags normally since he has folding running as a service in both instances. This is the only problem I have with running them as a service. I need to get in gear and find exactly what would need to be changed to add the flags to the registry.

This thread has some info on Registry Editing:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=853987&highlight=regedit

rkhands said it best:
As long as you are ok with editting the registry then do:

Start->Run regedit
Search for -svcstart

you should end up here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYTEM\ControlSet001\Services\FAH@C:+folding+FAH5console.exe

Look at the entry for ImagePath. That is the command line that is executed when Folding is started as a service. Just double-click on it and change the Value data and add the additional command line switches you want. Click OK, and you are done. Then you can do:

Start->Run services.msc

and stop and start the FAH service. It will now be running with your switches.
