I too, like many it seems is in the market for a dual moniter setup. I came here looking for idea's on why I should spend 1000$ on a nice dual moniter setup.

I noticed a post here about a guy wanting dual moniters for work purposes only and I do not need that while I'm at work only interested in gaming. I have a 20" Widescreen dell LCD and a 19" Widescreen LCD on 2 seperate computers and would like to purchase (2) 22" Dell LCD's for my new upcoming rig.

So I ask you hardgamers, what is the purpose for dual moniters when gaming? Can I be playing my games, (we'll say WoW for example), and have FireFox up on the other moniter browsing the internet in between pulls? If my computer can handle it, is it possible to have 2 games running at once on seperate moniters?

And also, what is a good program to use to link the two together?

Thanks for any help,

Gaming on 2 screens works only on a few games without additional hardware.

Playing a game and browsing (meaning going to the other screen to do something) only works if the game will do windowed mode, otherwise the game will minimize.

In the past I've used a dual display setup for gaming, but only used the second display for some general info tasks. I kept ventrilo, irc, and xfire open on the second monitor. There aren't too many things you can do to really utilize both monitors during gaming.

Ah so it would be mainly for looks/bragging rights as when I'm at home I'm either on the [H] or playing WoW, work is where I really need it it seems, still stuck on a 17" CRT here, YUCK!.

Also to Teronzul, did you play in Windowed mode to allow you to type in xfire/irc while playing?

To WS6, is it possible to have WoW playing on both moniters? I can load up 2 games of WoW and my computer will run it so I know it can handle it, just wondering how that would work. Maybe 2 windowed modes of each running game and just drag it over to the other I assume?

Thanks,

if your going to go multimonitor gaming you have to go tri-monitor setup with the matrox triple head..

if not just buy a good widescreen minotor..

the reason being is most games (racing, FPS, flight sims, mmos etc..) all have the action at the center of the screen.. In a dual screen setup that occurs at the exact junction between the dual monitors (so your cross hair is split between screen 1 and 2)..

with the tri-monitor setup you essentially use the 2 extra for a much wider FOV then you'd even get with a widescreen..

with that being said, you'r looking at a hefy price..

3 monitors will probably run you 600$ (@ 200$ ea) and then you need the matrox triple head for 250$ (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/th2go/home.php)

in the end though its a pretty sweet setup.. for FPSes not so much Other than having an awesome FOV, but for racing and flight games you can't get any better..
