Ive read and done most of the fixes, i still can not get both cores to work or show.
Ive installed Microsoft's hotfix, did the registry edit, installed AMD's optimizer, installed AMD drivers, changed boot.ini... and yet, still i dont get both cpu usage charts.
:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

Anything else, or maybe something i could check.
The only other thing i can think of is updating my BIOS (which i know has an update), but none the less, DualCore does show in system properties.

those aren't needed for that.Go ahead and do a repair install of windows. Thats where you put the cd in, boot up like normal, act like you are installing just like normal (DO NOT PRESS R at first part), and when you pick the directory to install in it will ask you if you would rather repair. Just make sure you have your cdkey handy ;)

Okay, ill have to give that a try when im at home tonight.
 
if u just went from single core to dual core, format. it will save u alot of problems
 
Format or you can mess around and change the HAL to show multiprocessor, but its best to format after going from a single core to a dualcore cpu, less problems in the long run if you format, trust me and Degen on this....
 
format will make the whole system a bit perkier but there goes all your stuff too :/ repair will usually get the job done for any system change, heck I went from 2.4c to X2 with a repair ;) course then I formated to make it faster.

Im not too worried about "stuff" I have one drive just for my Windows everything else installed is on other drives.
 
just make sure your computer in hardware manager says ACPI multiproc and not Uni proc, just uninstall that in your list and install the new one thats what i did

Can you explain this a little more please.
 
Im still having issues with getting it to display multiprocessors.
Ive reformated, installed all microsoft updates and the "hotfix", the amd optimizer, useptimer, and reg key.... im back where i was.

If you've reformatted and are still not getting it, then there's a problem at the motherboard level. You said you knew there was a newer bios available. I'd download it and flash to whatever the most recent one is.

Are you sure that board supports X2's? I heard a rumor a while back that some of the Via chipsets didn't support X2's properly.
 
Personally, I just got my 165 the other day, popped it in after replacing my single 3800+ (I forgot to even uninstall the uniprocessor in the first place) and it worked right away, though I formatted anyway, both to be on the safe side (to make sure I get the most performance and whatnot) and because I had a lot of junk on the PC anyhow. If you don't have too much to install after a format, just go ahead and do it
 
Well, I guess I'd just look for an NF4 board to replace that one. Shouldn't be too expensive ($30-70 or so depending on what kind of features you want and if you want it used or new).
