Is this $140 for a pair of gym shoes?

Even if I was willing to pay this, Air Jordans bring back bad memories...kids getting beatup outside of school & robbed for their shoes.

Might be a hot deal (maybe?) but I'm going to pass. I do appreciate the posting OP.

you could likely sell these for double and maybe even triple, a year from now.

If these were the Jordan 5's I'd be all over it. They were the only pair I got my hands on as a kid.

I just dont get why sneakers cost so much. Kids get beat up for high priced sneakers. Saw a car pull over on the news and 3 guys jump kid and take his shoes.

I had a pair of these in white/gray that I bought brand new back when they first came out. I went to foot locker every single day after school for a month and put down the $120 of my hard earned money to have the shoes that were the envy of everyone the day they were available. Wore them one day at school and then back in the box they went for 2 years until I pulled them out again. Wore them to school for the next 2 years which was carpeted everywhere so very little wear. My brother and I cleaned our Jordans every weekend with leather protectant (he had the next gen up from mine). They still had some of the little bumps in the tread like when they're new. I put them back in the original box and back in the closet after high school. Pulled them out after about 20 years in the closet and they still look great--I even have the original receipt and everything. Never thought these would be worth more than just being shoes. Great price on them new. Makes you wonder why they cost $120 back then in the first place or why they're $135 today.

You're lucky to be alive. I moved from that city and it stands out as one of the worst I've seen in the US.

What were Starter jackets? $100? Pretty good, warm, and comfortable but the look was favored over great quality. And leather is better than polyester.

And then Champion now wants so much for their hoodie. Jordan apparel is pretty expensive. Pants are probably much nicer from these brands compared to the 80s and 90s so it might be harder to compare but some are like $100.

Labor and Material cost is like $4 something a shoe I've read. Pair of shoes average is $7 dollars or less. Some shoes cost $2 a pair, like the cheap ones you get for $20 a pair.

    Massive profits in making shoes.

They cost $120 back then because guys like you would pay that much for them. But you're right they could probably charge $250 for them today and that same crowd will show up. Remember the Starter jacket craze? Wonder if that will ever come back.

To be fair, they actually were worth the money as the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. But if it was about inflated value and hype I would think they would have gone up in price. I have no idea what a starter jacket even is, lol.

Aside from these being a limited run (I assume), I don't know. I did buy a pair for about this much, but they've got a unique design (almost like a painting) and they too were a limited run. I've heard that many buy 2 pairs of jordans, and sell the 2nd pair later to pay for the other pair after the run is sold out.

I LOVED these back in the day, I think 4th grade. All I could do is drool over them but my friend had some.

I dont understand people's infatuation with shoes that cost $00.25 to make in a Chinese sweat shop yet pay $150+++ for them. I buy shoes that can withstand the elements and protect my feed from the rigors of outdoors living. Yet some buy shoes to brag about thier money.

I'm in the same boat, but aside from $300 italian shoes, I don't think there's any shoes that aren't being made for pennies in some third world sweatshop.

And I don't get why the comfort aspect of the higher performance sport shoes (like these Jordans) don't make it into more everyday looking shoes. I also don't understand why shoes wear out and fall apart the way they do today. Back in the day people would re-sole their shoes because the shoes lasted.
