According to the WHO, malaria kills almost 500,000 people every year, and Zanzibar has quite a number of those deaths because of their climate. For years Zanzibar has been combating malaria with bed nets and household insecticides, but now they've decided it's time to attack mosquitoes where they breed/hatch. Drones have been the perfect tool for them to identify mosquito habitats so that they can begin to target those areas. Hopefully, this technology will make a dent everywhere around the world. Check out their drone footage below.

Watch the video here.

Well, they are food for most species of birds.

That's about th eonly useful thing they do.

I'd like to think that if they were all exterminated, other (non-disease spreading) insect species would fill in and take their place in the food chain, but who knows.

Replace all animals with cats according to that graph.

We should drop some a-bomb left and right to beat these damn mosquitos. Human #1.

Also other insects and bats.

They are doing something about it. Specifically, they've released mosquitoes into the wild that have been modified to be immune to malaria, and have that gene as the dominant gene so that it passes on to future generations.

The hope is that they can eliminate malaria in just a few years.

Jesus Christ, I'm so tired of videos that don' show shit. You click on a video thinking, "oh I'm going to see how these drones seek out and destroy malaria carrying mosquitos," but then all you see is two minutes of drone footage of a swamp. It s the same shit as when you click on a video expecting to see the cool shit you were promised, but instead you see a 30 second musical intro followed by a 3 minute video of interviews followed by 5 second of the content you wanted to see followed by a 3 minute debriefing. I hate youtube videos...
