I gave these a crack today. Im seeing the best ppd i have ever seen soo fare gtx260 700/1560/1100 353 9200-9500 ppd 783 9020 ppd. i was using 195

Might have to update the drivers on my GPU rig to these. Sounds promising...

Doing a driver update tonight anyway, so I'll see how my two new 260s like this new driver. Currently doing 8250PPD at 626/1500/1101.
 
I saw a bump after the new drivers. The best being 8970PPD. :cool:
 
Guys please post the current drivers you were using before upgrade.....

so we can tell if say for instance 196.75>191.70
 
I have 195.62 on both nV machines..I will upgrade to the new ones either tomorrow (Fri) or Sat and will post a PPD update then. :)
 
Little late for that now. :D All I remember was they were from Jan 10th or 11th and WHQL. Source was Windows Update.

nvidia just pulled the drivers off their site claiming the fan controller in the drivers were broken.. yet they have been broken since the 195.62 drivers and have never fixed them.. so my guess is they screwed something else up that they dont want to say..
 
i set my fan manually soo works for me.

Same here. Was disappointed when I got to work today though to find the drivers pulled from the nVidia site. Guess I'll just have to ftp them from home... hehe

Latest NVIDIA drivers overheat cards

It is a generally known fact that, in order for any PC component, or, indeed, the entire system to run properly and at an optimum performance, the latest drivers should be used for all hardware. However, in some cases, updating a driver may prove less than favorable, sometimes even fatal, to the respective component or the entire configuration. One such situation has arisen recently, with the latest NVIDIA driver found to be causing any and all cards to suffer from serious overheating.

The latest NVIDIA driver is 196.75 and it has sparked a large number of complaints from a variety of end-users. According to them, their systems start suffering low FPS, they freeze or even lock down when playing 3D games. This includes not only graphically intensive titles like Crysis or StarCraft 2 Beta, but also older, less demanding titles such as Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft. Initially, WoW players blamed the latest patch, but the Blizzard staff identified the issue as a failing of the graphics drivers.

The Blizzard staff immediately contacted NVIDIA, which quickly responded and confirmed that it was working on the issue. In the meantime, the 196.75 driver has been removed from the official website and the GPU maker advises all consumers to revert back to the older, 196.21 version until the problem is solved.

“We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime,” NVIDIA said, IncGamers reports.

Among the more serious issues reported is the GPU going as high up as 104 degrees Celsius. This temperature does not only prevent the card from running correctly, but it can also permanently damage it and the system.

End-users may find the corresponding drivers available for download here.

I was going to post the direct links for the drivers but they don't work..."File not found" on the 3 I tried. (from the "here" link above)
They're *listed*, but clicking them gets a "File not found" on the external mirror (which is nV). :(
I'll keep digging...there's gotta be a link for them somewhere.

I don't really have a problem with the fan issue, but I wonder about the temp issue and whether that goes hand in hand with the fans, or if there's some reason that the gpu core gets overloaded. Hopefully these'll be updated and re-released soon...the allure of more PPD was promising. :(

Best wait until nvidia fixes the issue. I've got my flagship GPU folding with this ill-fated driver and I don't want to risk losing it. :D Rolling it back.

More horror stories on nVidia's official feedback thread for 196.75 .... wait that doesn't smell like real toast. [Sniff sniff]. :rolleyes:

nVidia says an update will be available shortly

I just logged into my GPU rig and temps are good and the fan is running at 75% (manual setting).

I'm sure there are many who installed it and walked away. Damn I'd be pissed if my board got fried.
 
I set it to auto 10 minutes ago gtx260 its at 75c 44%-45% fan 40% is the starting point. my clocks are 700/1560/1100 update 30 minutes in. win7-64 and xp-home both work the same as fare as the fan goes run's 40% till 73c and fan increases 1% to 1C one card maxed at 75 one at 74 running 353 and a 783

I have not seen any issues but I do have my fans forced on as well. Performance seems to be about the same as the 191.07's so I'll just keep em. I would not hassle with the upgrade though if you are happy with your current drivers.
 
If the fan speed issue is real and the only problem with the drivers, I'm wondering if it's only affecting certain models and not all or only non-reference designs or reference only designs. I do not remember what drivers I installed on a system I built for someone earlier this week running a 9800GT but the automatic fan control was working fine on that system. I watched everything carefully for the day I had the system while I was stress testing it and one of the stress tests was running the GPU client.

Just thought I would throw that out there as something to keep in mind. Also, don't forget that sirmonkey may be 100% correct in that there could be something else very wrong with the drivers and they are using fan control issues as a cover. Personally, I would roll back the drivers. Losing a little PPD now is a hell of a lot better than losing a lot more down the line if the drivers to manage to kill the card.
