This man speaks the truth. I could buy a Dremel using the money from a single 8 hour shift.Originally posted by carlson
huh... for those of us who don't get them for our parents knowing full well they won't use it... a job might help.

Drills and dremels are two totally different types of tools. Ideally you would have both a drill and a dremel. It is a hobby, though, just like anything else. Unless you need a dremel to survive day to day, hold off on it. Once you get a dremel you will need bits and metal and plastic and all kinds of stuff to work on. Walmart sells rotary tools like the dremel for about $20.
Oh I don't remember. I have one of the variable speed ones from walmart but it is 150 miles away from me right now so I can't check. RTX or something like that. They are back with the tools so you should be able to find them.Originally posted by quiksilverx181
Well spoken, what would the dremel-like tool be called if i were to go to Walmart? I really wanna start these cuts

Quiksilver, see if you can find a Black & Decker Outlet--I got my multispeed dremel, a nice little toolbox, and a bunch of accessories for $40. Hope this helps.

Go to Sears and get their "Craftsman Rotory Tool." It uses the same bits and stuff as the Dremel and costs much less. I got mine with the bit organizer and a bunch of cut-off wheels, sanding drums, etc for $35. It's a five-speed with a cord so I don't worry about the battery life. It came with more than enough cutting wheels to do my first modding project which consisted of cutting intake/exhaust fan holes, window and a couple holes for routing cables. I don't know if its as good as a Dremel, but it's cheaper.![]()
