My production fell off a bit due to some changes....

Just got the 295. Thought I was going to have two, but the other deal fell through.

So anyway, got the one 295 and new motherboard installed this morning. Started the Win7 install and will finish that up tonight and get it crunching.

The whine coming from SWMBO's machine is a little concerning to me. People talking about the coils squealing on the video card doesn't bother me, but I want to be sure it's not the PSU.

Is the Antec Earthwatts 380 enough for a EP-45-UD3L with an E8400, 8800GT, and one HDD?

Failing HDs can also generate a whine. Might check that and make sure anything important is backed up.

Yes, it's just fine. I have an Earthwatts 380 running a Gigabyte 965P-DS3, Q6600@3.4, 8600GT, TV card and 4 hard drives. I doubt you're pulling much, if any more power than I am and I know this PSU still has room to spare.

Friendly hint tho, in order to activate both cards, there has to be a display (real or dummy) on each GPU. One GPU is mapped to both DVI ports, the other to the HDMI port, so remember that.

Ok, so I have this HDMI to DVI plug I got from Radio Shack that I used to use on the PS3 but no longer do. Can I just plug that into the HDMI port on the 295 and it will "activate" the second GPU for folding?

dont know, can you run your primary monitor off the hdmi and put a dummy on one DVI? that will work, not sure about just plugging in a cord that, it will still not see the resistance, thats why we use the resistors in the dummies

on a side note, I tried turning on Quad SLI (sounds so sexy) and seeing if that will activate all GPU's, nope. But, since I game on it, and I havnt seen a performance drop, I'm just going to leave QuadSLI (ooooo) turned on, saves me a step while gaming!!

Nope, you need resistors hooked up to the output so the card senses that something is connected. Either an actual monitor or a dummy plug.
