DOTA 2

lmao i cant believe you guys ... [snip] rank 1 and move on or youre bad

So, "agree with me or you are bad"? Ad Hominem = Best debate tactics ever.

Your ideas of CM are outdated as shit, I can tell you're an old-time DOTA player based on that post and your builds. News flash, we don't keep nova at 1 anymore because it isn't a 5s slow at lvl 1. Ever since Arcane boots were added, ranking aura has been useless. Max your offensive spells and get some kills. Games changed a lot from 2008 man.

I'm not even in the minority on this, if I ever feel bothered enough i'll pull up a vod of synderen and puppey talking about CM and the 6.75c patch notes on talkdota....

Get active, sitting in lane for 15 minutes isn't what dota is about anymore. You should concrete your carries position in lane, then start moving to create space for your carry. By ganking, you're pulling people out of your carries lane (via them tp'ing to other lanes) and letting him have the solo xp. CM is hampered by base 280 move speed, but her nova and imprisonment are two of the best offensive spells before 6. With aura, you're just dicking around in the short lane pulling and stacking jungle, with nova+block you're capable of creating so much more space and your map presence is felt much more by the opposing team.

But anyways, we'll just agree to disagree.

A) much better debate
B) entirely correct. However, with the nerf to arcanes cooldown, a few levels of aura can be decent. Max at 7 is terribad though. A lot depends on the mana reliance of your allies (got super mana-heavy jungler, offlaner, mid AND carry heroes? I could see a more balanced build with 2-3 in aura pre-11).

Admittedly, both Q and W do NOT scale that well after level 1, but nonetheless they are more impactful than passive, small amounts of mana. The main debate between them centres around your situation. Are you mainly facing: Multiple or single heroes? Heroes with a speed-granting ability (aka slow is bad vs them)? Note that, in general, if Q is better than W, then your ulti may be worth it. If W is better than Q, your ulti is probably skippable for a while.

Yep its the dota in all of us. I'm not going to complain if a CM on my team ranks aura. Like I said, the beauty of DOTA is that every game is different. Skill and item builds are entirely dependent on the flow of the game, your lanes, your team comp and your enemy's team composition. I'll never agree with anyone who says you have to build a hero a certain way. I'm not saying 4-4-0-0 is the required build, I just simply find it to be overall more effective in more games than something like 1-3-4-0. 1-4-3-0 is certainly preferable in a lot of line ups.

Anyone with a 1440p monitor, how is the fps? I'm getting one soon and hopefully I can achieve above 120 fps..I still have i5 760 at 3.8ghz, a single 460 gtx..I get like 140-170fps average at 1080p. Sometimes fps goes as low as 80fps or so.

I think you'll want to get a faster GPU. I went SLI GTX 460 before and now I'm on a GTX 680. I don't think you'll hit 120fps+ with your setup, not even with FSAA turned off.

Pretty much my setup since ~June. Its nice :)

Doesn't make me a better player though :(

I just finally jumped into the game for the first time, played with the Ash like character first to get used to the game mechanics. Than jumped into using Sniper and had a HELL of alot of fun playing, I play at 1280 res and it is maxed, getting about 45FPS with a 1090T, 8GB DDR3, 6850 graphics card. Cant complain, plays very nice. Loven it.

Dont like Beastmaster at all, I cant play him for beans.

Glad you had fun as sniper. Hes a prototypical noob-pick hero (kinda in a bad way), but that is fine. Doing well with a hero on your first time has a sneaky habit of making you love that hero way more than you should :)

Out of curiosity, who is "the Ash like character"? I know next to nothing about league champs (I'm assuming thats what Ash is?).

Beastmaster is really hard to play properly. For newer players, I recommend just going Axes + Aura (level stats over the W) and playing him the easy way. Axes still take some getting used to, but some key tips are: There are 2 axes, each damage every target hit once on the way out, and once on the way back. A target can take max 2 instances of damage from the ability, even if both axes hit both ways. This spell does damage through magic immunity. You should *never* target the axes right in front of you, rather throw them a long way and reposition your hero to make sure they come back through the targets you want.

His ulti also goes through magic immunity (in this case, only the stun, not the damage) so you can disable *anybody* in fights. While the skill does more than just a single-target stun, you might as well treat it as just a stun. Use it and your axes to burst down a target for quick and easy ganks.

Most of his difficulty lies in his summons (his W) which are decent but not worth the effort until you are really more adept at the game in general.

Most of all, Have fun!

Drow Ranger

Took me a second to figure out what I was talking about myself.

Sniper is good, he is CURRENTLY the best im at right now, but with only 5 games under my belt, 5 characters, I still have alot left to try!

The matchmaking is weird or I have too much skills :D

Last night I played my 5th online game (and like my 10th game ever) and was placed against opponent level 15. (others were like 6, 13, 9,10)

We did win but they had alot of DC and finished the match 5 vs 2  However, the invoker gave us a hell of a fight since he was able to get to level 24 while we were like 14 :p

The levels purely reflect amount of games played, and have nothing to do with skill. Plenty of people have 1000+ games of Dota 2 (level 30+) and still can't play remotely well.

Grats on the win though :)

I know that the level doesn't always reflect skills. However, if you have over 1000+ games.. you should in theorybe better than a total newb like me :p But I'm usually good at videogames and read alot about build/strategies/etc.

For the match last night tho, it was the first time I had a challenge at least. It was fun :) in a different way. My first games were also fun ramping kill streak, triple-kill, dominating :D

And the win wasn,t a real win (IMO) since they weren't full team. It's a good win when you win while being 4 vs 5 but winning 5 vs 4... meh  (in our case it finished 5 vs 3!!)

There is a matchmaking system though and tiers from my understanding.

Yes, there is a matchmaking system but the rating is completely hidden and Valve works really hard to make sure you can't figure out your rating :p

There aren't really "tiers" per say but you can look up your games in the past to see if they are ranked as "Normal" skill, "High" skill, or "Very High" skill. FWIW Very high players are still pretty bad.
