Or at least snap it to the gun by default. I mean seriously, haven't they ever heard of tac rails.

NO flashlight.
How could I have missed this thread!
I've wanted to post about this for a while, though I'm not sure anyone will either bother to neither read it nor respond.
First, I believe the hate that the later games that id software develops are unwarranted. My opinion is that you cannot put cars, tanks, and all kind of deeply story driven variables into a DOOM IP and think that it will be true to the DOOM legacy. The flashlight get more shit than anything else in the game. Do you not think they didn't sit in a board room and discuss the pros and cons of having a flashlight compared to a top mount light? Being forced to use a flashlight is better in my opinion because it brings that sense of exploration and excitement where the top mount light wouldn't. It's just you and a light, it's fairly symbolic, but probably over peoples heads. I think DOOM 3 went far enough to keep things interesting, but still a point A--->B shooter.
So, my expectations for DOOM 4 are what I think D3 lacked...action. The original DOOM was about heart pounding action, rolling over hundreds of demons, zombies, etc. Though there were tense scenes in D3, they were nowhere near the shear the action oriented, over the top, insane play. Also, I'd like to move the level design to not only the techno feel, but the organic, earthy, mystic, gore vibe in the original DOOM series.
Ill expect id softwares tight controls, best graphics/sound in the industry, and a great story. I know what Im getting when I pick up an id title plain fun and a complete package.
While were on the subject, my theory is that RAGE was an IP created to shut people up who complained of D3 not having vehicles or that the levels are too dark, etc. Its almost as if id software has created this title so that DOOM 4 can be true to its roots without people freaking over it.
But Im an [id] fan boy. They changed an industry with their bare hands.
You had some sort of bottleneck, my Athlon XP Barton @ 2.2GHZ and a Radeon 9800Pro could run the game just fine at 1024x768 high quality, I got IIRC 55~ fps on the timedemo demo1. (yeah I know a 9800Pro was newer tech compared to 9700, but it wasn't 50% faster or anything)
Yep. If they make it, I'll play it. Can't get any simpler than that. But Im an [id] fan boy. They changed an industry with their bare hands.
I think they should put items in the game that you can use to enhance things. Such as a roll of tape to fix flashlights to your guns or tie two guns together ala Aliens. scrap metal to insert into your armor for added protection. Chemicals to make "home-made explosives" and medical supplies. They should definetly add an inventory system or at least a back pack of some sort. I think if they added that kind of thing it would add even more immersion to the game, not that it really needs it.
Sounds like you just described Bioshock. And i loved me some Bioshock. Just could not get into D4, the stupid darkness was such a turn off, i just stopped playing. Even now, i have no desire at all to play it. I'd rather play through Bioshock again. Of NOLF. Or the originals (updated of course).
What's sad is i so wanted to love D4. I really feel let down by ID, because they changed to game too much to really call it a doom game.
1. Alot of initial sales
2. People think it's awesome for a bit
3. Sales continue
4. People realize it sucks.
5. People wait for Doom 5 to rock
FYI - DOOM 4 isn't out yet. What are these mods smoking?
