Ok I have a sound blaster audigy platinum and some creative 5100? 5.1 speakers. When I go to the surround sound option it says unable to locate 3d audio! Can someone help me?

control panel> sounds and audio devices>volume-speaker settings> advanced-speakers-speaker setup. You can guess the rest. It worked for me should work for you.

Strangely for me, it said the same thing. However surround sound came on anyway. Wierd.

Thx S0m30n3 it worked and now life is good..... Oh and PiratePowWow are you sure its just not using all the speakers in 2 channels?

No, I'm not sure, but it is wierd either way because before I clicked the surround option the back speakers put out 0 sound.

I had to go into my sound settings and tell my system I had 5.1 surround. Sounds much better.

I was getting the error
Unable to locate 3D Audio
Surround speakers not found. Make sure the speaker settings are configured properly in the Windows Control Panel.

I was able to get surround sound working using the retail Doom 3 on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate using these steps:

From Doom 3's main menu, bring up the in-game command console by pressing Ctrl+Alt+~, then enter the command:
seta s_useOpenAL 1

Quit Doom 3 and restart. Then surround sound can be chosen the System Options panel.
