Does this rig qualify as "high end"

I was having a discussion with a buddy earlier today about my current main rig. I really don't consider it to be "all that" but he swears it's a pavement ripper. Here's what it consists of:

A64@2.4(240x10) on a
DFI Lanparty UT 250gb with
1GB HyperX PC4000 and a
150gig RAID0.
X800 Pro at 510/510 driving a
2001fp on a swing-arm.
Santa Cruz driving
EV Sonic 2.1's
MX700 w/teflon on a
classic [H]-logo RatPadz and
some standard black/silver keyboard.

I guess that, because I hang around here and know what "high end" really is, I kinda consider this rig to be more "mainstream." I mean, there's no 5.1, it's a Socket754, the vcard's not an XT (much less a PE), etc. Maybe mainstream on the [H] isn't the same as mainstream everywhere else, huh?

Whose definition of 'high end'?

1. General Public -- You have a very very very high end

2. Game Developers -- You have a hign end system

3. Hard Core Gamers -- You have very nice system

4. Elitiest Brats - There is no waterblock or phase cooling, so you are a waste of time

It can be better, but I will still concider it high end. You have alot of top quality parts. IMO Mainstream would be an AXP or the cheapest AXP on a lesser quality board, a gig of value ram or lower end XMS/HyperX, hard drives not in Raid, a 9800Pro or 6600GT, a standard CRT, and a standdard mouse/keyboard. Yours isnt th ebest of the best, but I think its up to par with alot of comptuers here, and better that quite a few also. I might not go the extremes of your friend, as there coudl be nice some upgrades done, but I myself woudl still concider it high end.

It was high-end when you posted, but that was almost a day ago. Sadly, now it is nothing but junk. :p

Your audio system needs some help, otherwise I would consider it "high end" ;)

i would consider mine high end:

amd64 3500+
2x512 ddr333 (ok, not this)
6800gt
Creative Auidgy 2 ZS
Antec Silent Purepower 450 wt
Samsung 17" 712N LCD
Logitech z 560s

In the general public it's high end in my oppinion. I mean there is some room for upgrading but overall it should still run any new game with high quality settings which constitutes a high end machine to me. I think the video card is one of the main deciding factors with your system. If you had a Radeon 7000 or something it'd be maintream I would say.

The more I think about it, high end isnt necessarly based on your parts. Its based on the parts of the person judging it. I mean, looking at my computer, then yours, I would tend to think its less high end. However, if it were a year ago and I was still on my HP with a 400mhz celly and 2MB integrated video, your computer would be a dream machine. I am assuming your friends PC isnt that good, if he thinks so highly of yours, and bottem line, that is what I boils down to. If someones computer isnt as good, to them its high end. If someones comptuer is better, then it may or may not be high end, depending on how close it is. Either way, I woudlnt sweat it, your rig is better than most.

I would consider this as med to very low high end, I would classify watercooling and phasecooling as more high end...
