A couple of weeks ago I was buying an LCD and the Samsung 172X caught my eye for it's sleek looks and good specs. However, at that time the 710T came out and in all reviews on various forums everyone was saying how much better colors on the 710T were since it uses a 24-bit panel that can display "true color" rather than 18-bit used in the 172X. So, I bought it and I was pretty satisfied with it until my neighbor bought his 172X. The first thing that I noticed is that the colors on the 172X don't look ANY worse than on my 710T. 710T a nice monitor and all, but I'm a bit jealous now because next to my neighbor's 172X, my 710T looks fugly! THEN I read that the 710T is actually ALSO a 18-bit panel and can display only 16.2m colors, exactly the SAME as the 172X. Now I really regret buying the 710T because I can't see any difference in color quality and ghosting at all (which was why I got it instead of the 172X in the first place).
What I would like to know is where did that supposed "big difference in color quality" come from? It seems that some people are easily impressed by numbers and see what they want to see. They read a false information about the 710T being a 24-bit panel and all of a sudden they see a huge difference. After comparing the two monitors I've come to conclusion that they both use exactly the same panel and it's just casing is that's different, despite the 710T having higher specs (which in most cases aren't accurate anyways). Can anyone confirm this please? Thank you.
