does ps3 suck?

Well I have all 3 and I think the wii will follow the cube to be honest with everybody. The only really good titles will come from nintendo and that's about it and lets face it nintendo can't release a AAA game for the wii every month so I believe in the end the wii will end up finishing last when it's all said and done.
And don't get me wrong I like the Wii otherwise I wouldn't have purchased one, it's just it gets old fast and the only thing thats going to make me turn it on will be for a new nintendo title like smash or mariokart or to play some re4 and I think alot of people feel the same way.

I am going to buy a PS3 this weekend for the Blu-ray movies. No good RPG's for a while and that’s about all I play.

If you have hdtv the PS3 is a way better value because xbox plus hd-dvd player is the same cost as a ps3, and blu-ray will win the format war so ps3 is the much more cost efficient decision because you get so much more future capabilities out of it.

the only things I don't like about the ps3 are the price and the controller (they should have at least made it more ergonomic, like how the 360 controller is just a more comfortable s-controller).

Is that such a bad fate though? The gamecube was a cheap, fun oriented console, with some of the best games of last-generation, IMO. If you got Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid and SSB, what more do you want? I'm sure quite alot of people got far more enjoyment from the Gamecube than anything that Microsoft or Sony offered! Those same people are going to enjoy the hell out of the Wii! Who really cares if the "hardcore" don't like the experience Nintendo is offering, that doesn't make it any less of a console. Sure it sold marginally less than the Xbox (despite being ahead for quite a while), but it doesn't change how much fun Gamecube owners had.

While it's cool that you want a Blu-Ray player, the 360 has a better RPG lineup announced than the PS3 does IMO... Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Trusty Bell... All supposed to launch this year. All look either good or great.

Just an opinion. Just because the PS2 rocked the RPG world doesn't mean that MS isn't making up for it this generation.

PS3 doesn't suck, but for $200 less you can get a 360 that can match everything the PS3 can (minus Blu Ray). Why spend $200 more for a console thats lacking games right now ?

Clearly the PS3 doesn't suck, but I think most gamers are willing to openly admit the Wii and 360 are FAR BETTER options right now.

Minus Blu Ray is a big deal to some people. Why did anyone buy an X360 up until 6 months ago ? The limited choice of games is only temporary. The PS3 is already starting to kick the Wii's ass in software. Next year, it will have caught up with X360's game library. Considering how often they seem to break, maybe MS should have charged a little more and put more effort into the engineering?

I won't admit anything other than Wii is a complete disappointment. There is one, one game out for it I'd actually buy, Zelda TP, and that's really a GC port. It's like someone mentioned, the 1st party Nintendo games are awesome but in the next few years there will likely only be a handful of worthwhile games. And let's face it. $250 is a complete rip off.
It's only $50 less than an X360 core system. Other than the motion thing, its tech is older than dirt. ;)

The key word is announced, rpg’s take a ton of time to make they don’t announce them until they have something to show.

This is a list of developers currently developing RPG’s for the PS3: Konami, Capcom, Sega, Square, Nippon Ichi, KOEI, Atlus, Level 5, Gust, Hudson, midway, Namco, Natsume and I'm sure there are many more that I'm unaware of. They are going to bring all there series on PS3 like; Dark cloud, Final Fantasy, Grandia, Shadow Hearts, Wild Arms, Growlancer, Breath of fire, Xenosaga, arc the lad, disgaea, Front Mission, Star ocean, Suikoden, Shinning series, and if they don't continue there series they will make new ones on the PS3.

Xbox does have 3 good looking Rpg’s on the way but 3 rpg’s in 2 years isn’t good odds. The PS3 will have 10 to 20 rpg’s when they hit there 2 year mark. The largest market for RPG’s is Japan and the XBOX has failed there because they lack the ability to create anything but FPS, Sports, and…..well that is it. Since they are a failure in Japan most RPG developers don’t want anything to do xbox360, blue dragon is only on xbox360 because the owner was fired from Square-enix.

no it wont.

porn decided VHS as the winner in the early 80's because you had NO OTHER way to get it in video form.
now it's widely (and freely) available on the internet.

who wants to go into a shady adult bookstore or order a porn DVD online and wait 2-5 days to get it, when you can just download the damn thing for a cheaper price anyways.
*not that i uhhh, condone such activities.

I think you're grossly overestimating the average porn guy. You and me we both know that we can download it. The 45 year old neighbor that gets his kicks from watching a adult DVD once in a while and just slightly knows the word email does not know how to download porn. Not even talking about the HD-DVD rips being easier to make than Blue-Ray rips.

Not even talking about the huge price difference between BlueRay and HD-DVD drives at the moment. The average consumer does not even think about getting a PS3 for their blueray entertainment, but they look for a standalone player. In which case he walks into bestbuy, checks the prices, compares to HD-DVD and their features (and the bestbuy employees, as "knowledgeable" as they are will tell them ANYTHING to sell) and most likely buys the hd-dvd.

Even Disney, so far a die hard BluRay supporter, now is thinking that it might be too early to settle on the one standard and openly discusses the support for HD-DVD. That should really tell you something.

ohoh....don't be too sure. The porno industry supports HD-DVD and you might not jhave the slightest idea, but the porno industry is going to be a HUGE factor.

The porno industry doesn't give a crap about HD-DVD. Ever heard about this thing called "internet"? You can get porn on it, lots of porn. All kinds of different types of porn. Free porn. Trials. Subscriptions. Webcams. Pictures. HD videos. Chat with your favourite girls/guys. You can buy panties too. Direct-to-customer distribution. Discrete, private billing. The porno industry has moved on, neither they nor their customers are interested in reverting to any sort of disk media.

Besides, there's porn on blu-ray too. =|

Edit:
The 45 year old neighbor ... does not know how to download porn.

Aw man, that's a new one. I don't know how to download porn either, honest ;)

I think its funny how people aka sony fans are "quoting" people and stating how obvious it is that their system is teh supreme.

It's not an arguement over which system is better guys. He was just simply asking if the PS3 sucked.

It does... a bit, come on lack of rumble?
and who's touting sixaxis that's a joke.

However, it does not suck. I just don't think its the best option right now.

I hate how everyone says well blah blah blah has been out for x time now and my system blah will be better than said x system in blah months. The future is now.

The key word is announced, rpg’s take a ton of time to make they don’t announce them until they have something to show.

Exactly. The key word is "announced". How long does the average RPG take to make? Two years? Three? While the PS3 will have great RPGs down the road, very few will hit shelves in the US before Christmas 2008. If waiting 15-20 months for games he wants to play is okay with the him, so be it.

And since we haven't even heard about these supposed PS3 RPGs, we don't know when they'll be released, or even for what system they will be released. There's a damned good chance that they'll be ported to the 360 for a simultaneous US launch, espcially if the PS3 is still 5-7m units behind in sales. Capcom is showing Japanese devs that there is huge money to be made on the 360... Just look at Lost Planet. Capcom estimated around 750k of sales for this game and it sold 1m in the first month.

And BTW, Namco is the one developing Trusty Bell. So, you have Mistwalker, Namco, and Capcom all making exclusive games for the 360... That doesn't sound too bad to me. It won't be long before the likes of Konami and others begin to join them. It's obvious that there is money to be made even if the 360 is failing in Japan. After all, Japan is quickly fading into a very distant second in game sales behind NA and with the price of game development skyrocketing (especially RPGs), companies can't afford to base their games solely on the Japanese market.

Can you two testosterone-seething, he-man, comic book fans finish up with this display of tough guy back-and-forth? I have some questions that need answering.

Always nice to see a mallrats fan.

Interesting and true as that might be. Blu-Ray drives are getting very close to HDDVD in price. Check the latest prices.

Blu-Ray movies are outselling HDDVD by insurmountable numbers at this point if it is to continue.

You are betting that HDDVD/Movie Industry/Distribution/etc will all change on the flip of a dime as soon as the porn industry begins shipping en masse HDDVD pornos?

The lead Blu-ray is mounting right now is nothing to be scoffed at. And, contrary to popular belief, Blu-Ray will have its share of porn, it isnt going to be HDDVD exclusive. So basically, without some major change in the industries climate, Blu-Ray has nothing but sunshine in their future to look forward to. Just in the last 3 months, there has been a polar shift in the HD scene as far as which format will break out first. It hasnt been HDDVD, thats for sure.

exactly.. not gonna happen. Porn was released on laserdisc and we all know how that turned out, the porn industry does have alot of clout, but mainstream consumers have more.

Yeah, the future is now. What 360 exclusives came out last month? Crackdown and what else? And what PS3 games came out? Motorstorm, VF5, F1, and Tekken 5. Don't get me wrong, Crackdown is a cool game but Motorstorm + VF5 + F1 + Tekken 5 >>> Crackdown! Am I wrong?

My gamecube gave me value when I paid 80 bucks for it. A gamecube style experience, which is what you're saying wii will give, is not worth 250 +more for a second controller. That's just me though. As much as I didn't want it to be, the Wii is looking to be more and more like the gamecube.

While Blu-Ray looks like the favorite at this point, we won't really see the battle begin until players drop to $150. With HD-DVD players going for as little as $360 on Amazon, that might not be that far away.

The real question is:

Will Blu-Ray have too big of a lead to overcome if HD-DVD can get their players down to less than $200? HD-DVD better hope that day is soon because if Blu-Ray players creep within $50 of HD-DVD players, this battle is over. The only thing HD-DVD has going for it is price. Get enough consumers to buy players and the studios will move to that format. Yes, even Sony. Their movie studio has to make money and Blu-Ray isn't their baby, it's the electronics division. If Blu-Ray starts hindering Sony Pictures profitability, they'll drop it like a bad habit (not that I'm saying that will happen).

It will be interesting to see what happens as the price of HD movie players drops to less than half the price of a PS3 or 360+add-on drive. Then the adoption rate of the PS3 will be a non-issue and the players will sell on price and merit, nothing else. That's when the adoption rates will skyrocket.

Remember that the current market is probably less than 4-5% of its ultimate size down the road. Having a 25% lead of that 4-5% is good, but it's definitely not going to win any wars for you in the long run.

This battle has a long way to go before it is decided.

F1 is garbage. The reviews are horrible. Tekken 5 is a cool download only port, and VF5 will be out for the 360 and is a timed exclusive only. Motorstorm is moderately fun, but has only 8 tracks and mixed reviews. Personally I like it, but it's a fairly ho-hum racer with cool visuals but not much depth.

Your counting games that came out last month?

VF5, TEKKEN 5,?? and even Motorstorm - aren't even original games.

Dont' kid yourself.

And the racer games? Please.

I'd take Crackdown.

But since I'm not really into racers or fighters, that's not much of a surprise. The PS3 did have a pretty good month.

I don't see either format being a long term solution in the way that dvd supplanted VHS personally. I think digital distribution models and new formats will kill both of these...hddvd and bluray are the new laserdisc imo...just a step between two real winning formats.

Xbox only has one developer that Sony doesn't have and thats mystwalker, were as sony as over 20 rpg developers that xbox isn't working with.

I could care less who wins I go were the RPG's go and right now the developers are sticking with PS3. Some may make a game or two on other systems but the majority are with ps3 so thats were I go.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I think the real future is downloadable content and while physical formats will always have their place, neither one of these formats will storm the world like DVD.

wow this turned into a Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD thing quick.

Getting one of these threads with these types of arguments is like seeing a penguin fly through the sky:p

Yeah, I'm just saying its not going to take long for the PS3 library to catch up with the 360s. Last month I bought three PS3 games (VF5, Motorstorm, and F1 - which is AWESOME by the way as long as you are an F1 fan) and only one 360 game (Crackdown). Anyone buying a console for $400-600 who ISN'T paying attention to the future is an idiot. The PS3 is catching up fast.

My point is that you don't even know if they're sticking with the PS3 because they haven't announced anything formally yet (at least to my knowledge).

I listed four exclusive 360 games that are going to be released in the next 9 months, all of which are either system-sellers or very good games from what the press has seen.

I'm not saying that the PS3 won't have great RPGs, I'm just saying that the 360 has four announced right now with release dates attached to them. And since we don't know what the devs have up their sleeves for the upcoming games, for all we know, those games might be ported to the Wii because of its phenominal sales. Unlikely, but possible. We just don't know right now. You're assuming things.

In all fairness, the 360 did get GRAW2 this month. PS3's version is still awhile away.

I'd take Graw2, Crackdown, Alien Hominid, Worms, and TMNT arcade over what came out for the ps3, but that's why these threads are so fun, differing opinions.

I like how you completely misrepresented the new releases for the 360 though. Either count downloadable games or don't, but do it for both systems.

Fair enough, however there is a HUGE difference between XBLA titles and a download such as Tekken 5. I would rather have Tekken 5 over all of the XBLA games combined (until SOTN comes out).

Also, I totally forgot about GRAW2. I bought GRAW last year and it was OK so I wasn't really too excited about the sequel.

Most if not all the developers I listed have stated they are working on PS3 projects, they are still untitled because they are just starting on them. I like to look ahead and not just see what out now. The PS3 has so many developers currently developing that in a year or 2 it's going to flood the market with System selling games.

You can find most of the developers on Wikipedia it states there they are working on Ps3 projects, not the most reliable source but I trust it.

And you keep mentioning how there will magically be a huge number of titles next year. PS3 will have lots of sweet rpgs, but the development will be just as slow for these games as the 360 titles that have been mentioned, so I wouldn't be holding my breath for games that don't even have titles yet "because they are just starting on them" as you so deftly pointed out.

All i have to say is Mass Effect and Too Human, new releases coming up

and how about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game hehe

New burnout game is coming as well, and forza 2... just to name a quick few.
