does CCC really 'bog down' or 'lag' on startup?

I have 2 GB of RAM and my CPU is oc'd to 2.2 GHz (AMD 3000+), I use the X1800XT and use catalyst drivers 6.3

when i double click the ATI symbol in the system tray to bring up CCC, my computer starts flashing a little bit and my mouse is like 'skipping frames' i.e. it drags and pops around the screen as if it were not one complete motion but a lot of 'jerks' and sudden movements.

does this happen to anyone else? cuz it's pretty pathetic i think to see CCC doing that on my system.
 
I think it gets loaded and does the SmartGART check..you know when your screen blanks and gets redrawn.
 
Nope, not for me. The first time I load it up after a reboot, takes about 5-7 seconds. Each time after that, takes only about 1-2 seconds. I hardly ever load it up though, as you can right click the icon and make most changes to graphical quality.

Here is a post of someone doing tests on boot up, CCC load times, and NV load times. Its not an issue to me at all, as I said (and like the post I linked to) its only the first time you load it that it takes longer.

I wonder what is causing my screen to blank and get redrawn...I just assumed it was the SmartGART check.
 
Does it help if you set "display options > display detection options" to "manual detection only".?

it doesn't flash anymore or lag my mouse, so i guess yes :)

I will have to check that out tonight when I get home. Thanks for the tip.

BTW, CCC takes 17 seconds to load on my PC. I see in that thread that FallGuy linked to that someone says it is only supposed to take 6 seconds. In 6 seconds, the splash screen is up, but it takes another 11 seconds before the CCC itself shows.

Oh well, I use ATI Tray Tools anyways and rarely, if ever, use CCC.

First start-up after a Windows boot is ~4/5 seconds here, second startup almost instantly. Maybe your files are defragmentated a lot?
 
Nah, my shit is in tip top shape. I will time it right after a boot. When I timed it before, my PC had been on for over a week. Maybe the .NET crap for CCC was paged out.
 
I used to have a major problem with it. Then I uninstalled the CCC and started using ATI Tool for OCing and ATI Tray Tools for a CP and I don't get the lag and flashing on bootup anymore. Takes maybe 5 seconds from login to functionality. With the CCC it took at least a minute.
 
The only problem CCC has ever given me was back when it said I didn't have the privelages to run it. Something was wrong with my .net setup or CCC, ATI didn't know which at the time. I ended up doing a fresh install of XP later on to get it to work. I see now, that problem is in their knowledge base, but at the time, they had no suggestions or answers. Over at Rage3d forums, only a few had the same problem with no one ever coming up with a solution.
