So does anyone still play battlefield 2142?

I'm thinking about picking it up. If its anything like battlefield 2 then is has to be still worth playing.... right?
 
I too am wondering the same, the game is real cheap anyways, if the servers are still populated, I'd give the game a go.
 
Haven't played it in few months, but when I did was still really fun. There were about 250 populated servers as I recall.

We should reinstall it and start playing again. :)
 
Interesting, I should maybe pick it up sometime, when i find an even cheaper deal, haha!

I played a crap load and eventually grew tired of it. Haven't had it installed close to a year now.
 
I installed it, patched it and tried playing it but after 5 or so minutes, I get the boot from punkbuster. I couldn't figure out why, I cant sell it, and it wasn't enough fun for me to even bother researching the problem, so its going to be the test goat to see if my paper shredder can REALLY shred a cd as advertised.

Download the pbsetup.exe from the support page from evenbalance.com and do a manual punkbuster update with it. That's what I use when I get insta-booted for no reason. Usually works for me.

That said, I've heard that BF2142 is still popular, but nowhere near as popular as BF2.

I wonder if a single living soul plays BF: Vietnam; that game became unpopular real fast :(.
 
Yeah I play it occasionally. I invested soo much of my time into it...damn unlocks and ranking lol

Yep, you can force it.
set your resolution in the .exe file.
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

And no it is not stretched. It is actually true widescreen.
 
Have bought it recently as Deluxe Edition (with dl permission for Northern Strike), but tbh, I wasn't impressed about the handling and all .... maybe my expectations were too high, but QWET or GRAW are much, much better.
 
I enjoy BF2142, play it every once and a while, there are still tons of populated servers

No its not. :rolleyes:

It does the exact same thing as adding the +fullscreen to the shortcut, both force it to a widescreen res which then cuts off the top and bottom. Its a game engine restriction, and nothing is gonna "fix" it.

Umm, I do not think so.....It actually looks really good that way. Mistake that Ron has made though, you can't do it to the .exe file, it will not work. Have to create a separate shortcut.
 
never played this, but my roommate does.. He seems to enjoy it. Seen it at Gamestop for 19.99 I may pick it up

You can get it via EA store for $29.99, it includes northern strike, which costs $10 without the package.

I never said it didn't look alright, I just said that the +widescreen toggle does the exact same thing as the +fullscreen one does. Neither bf2 or 2142 (which is basically a bf2 mod) properly support widescreen due to the fact that Dice+Ea consider widescreens to be "unfair, and a form of cheating" so they gimp it.
 
There are still plenty of folks playing 2142. Not quite as many as still play BF2, but not that far off. It is an excellent game and at the discounted price a great deal.

If your looking for a great teamplay based community with active admin and a large crowd of pretty friendly regulars check out the TexasTeamplayers servers.

TTP is fairly strict about teamplay so if you do check them out make sure your in a squad and following orders!

I think BF2 and 2142 are both great games. I just don't have all day to play video games anymore and both of those games can take awhile. I prefer games where I can jump online, cause a bunch of chaos, then go about my business....like COD 4 ;)
 
just got few rounds in, great fun still. Plenty of awesome servers to play on.
 
hehe I love grabbing my support with a clark shotgun and camping the roof of the titan :p
 
^^ by far the most defensive tactic on titan mode...especially with a sentry gun on the opposite side of you.

and btw...ETQW is NOT better than any of the BF series hehe, or anything at all for that matter...:D
 
For Star Wars fans and those wanting a little twist in the gameplay/maps/weapons,etc., check out the First Strike Mod to BF2142. http://www.fsmod.com/us/ It was pretty fun and a nice change. Although servers and populations were lacking, the latest version (1.2) will be released soon and it's supposed to be alot better than the earlier version.
 
I recently reinstalled 2142 after about a year off from it and there are still alot of populated servers at all times of the day/night. It's still fun and I run it at 1920 x 1200 true widescreen.

How you might ask? easy you edit the command line as stated above but thats not the correct ratio its still 4:3. To get a true widescreen experience at 16:10 use the widescreen fixer loacted here. http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/

Have fun and make sure to pick the version he says to use for Pb enabled servers. This isnt an illegal hack the guy who wrote that little proggy got the OK from PB to use it.
 
Sigh... upgraded to the GX2 on my Vista x64 and 2142 no longer works :( TF2 does tho :)
 
i still have it but haven't touched it if you guys wanna play i'll reinstall it and give it a shot.. lol name the server n time =P
