Does 4X agp slot affect performance?

My friend just ordered a 6800GT from newegg, but his motherboard only supports 4X agp, he asked me if it will slow down the performance by half compared to a 8X slot, since i dont know the answer, do any of u guys know?

I had a difference of 100 3dmarks03 going from a p4 2.4 w/ agp 4x to a64 3200+ with agp 8x...

8x delivers more bandwith then 4x and if the theres barly any of a drop, wats so special about pci-x???? besides it offers more power to the card.

its sad but his comp is a premade hp pavilion and the case is in this weird sized case, i think its a mini atx, its size is about 60% of a mid tower. and the stock mobo inside is werid too, only 3 pci slots, its made by MSI model: MS-6577, its not even on MSI's website, p4 socet 478. The motherboard barely fits into the case. So upgrading a mobo is difficult, i asked him to buy a computer (aka make 1 himself), but hes lacking the funds

There is no performance difference between AGP8x and AGP4x. We don't use the extra bandwidth. If you'd like, when I get home, I can run 3D05 in AGP4x and AGP8x just to show you. There's no difference. We simply don't use the bandwidth.

Go take a look at PCI-E vs. AGP8x benchmarks. Newsflash : There's no performance difference yet.

Give it 2 years or so, then we'll see a difference. Your friend is fine.
