i have a question. are you guys actually going to use vr?
rich people think that if they scream to the heavens oh they will like. people will actually begin to like these things?
first was metro, then, windows 10, and now, virtual reality!
do they think i am going to sit on my chair in front of my expensive computer screen, and, put this thing in my face. and,ill start liking it?
i dont want to and never will want to have anything to do with this stupid vr thing.

so my question to you guys is:
do you actually like vr?
and moderators please have the courage to leave this thread open,
so people can know the "real" reality, behind, virtual reality?

yes/no?

me? no.

$600 or $800 to buy a headset makes someone a rich person. On [H] of all places this thread pops up. What a load of rubbish. Hey why don't you go over to the regular monitor forums and make and antagonizing post to everyone with a 4K GSYNC monitor? That should be fun too.

I tried the Vive recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I will be getting a headset soon enough.

So dont buy it? Its really not that hard, no one is forcing you to buy it.

I play just about every night, the nights I don't is only because of being an adult and free time. Its fun, which is more than I get from normal games.

I enjoyed getting to play with a Vive and am still looking for to getting an Oculus Rift.

So far I really enjoy the shooters like HordeZ and Brookhaven. really excited for where these could go with future games.

out of ammo is interesting for short plays. As is eve Valkyrie, and project cars.

My wife really enjoyed job simulator and throwing stuff around.

Hated luckys tale. And most every game that doesn't allow me the use the motion controllers. So now I trying to resell my rift since I use the vive 99% of the time.

I think in a couple years VR will be the norm/mainstream way to play games at home. They just need a few more generations of the headsets and video hardware.

I've had a Vive for a week now..... It's not a gimmick. It's truly the future of gaming. Once you experience it (even in its current at times rudimentary form) you know it's the truth.

sorry for hitting so hard guys.
i just hate when they try to sell something proclaiming as "it is the greatest thing on earth! say goodbye to monitors, keyboards, mouses, etc. welcome to this! this is how things will be now."
when i mention metro was because of that same "idea."

I think eventually but not for now. Keyboards and monitors are here for the long haul, however as far as gaming goes, its the future. No Doubt.

Who was claiming that? Absolutely no one, that's who. Oh, except for people who pretend it was being marketed that way, just so they can bitch about it.
I will happily play Elite with my Vive while my "expensive computer screen" sits idle. It's the best tool for the job. And if I want to browse the web and/or watch a video or play The Witcher 3, I'll do it on my monitor.

Meanwhile there are plenty of things I "dont want to and never will want to have anything to do with", but I don't waste my time trolling about them on forums dedicated to them.

I understand where you are coming from op. I thought the entire concept was pretty meh after trying the phone vr headset.

When I got some time to spend with my friend's vive... everything changed. I would never think of playing anything competitive like csgo in vr, but for casual games the experience is so incredibly immersive it's hard to put into words. If you get an opportunity to spend some time on your own with a decent setup I bet you will be surprised with how much more serious and real games feel.

I doubt that I will get a vr headset until they make games that I want to play on it. I don't care for any of the games that I have seen yet. Yeah playing luckys tale would be cool for an hour or so, what they need is to be able to make current games run in it and I would consider it.

I will probably drop money on the Vive as soon as my 1080 comes in (read: as soon as the strix goes up for sale) AND when I can try it out. VR is still in its infancy, and while I realize that subsequent generations will only get better, I want to make sure that I can have fun with it now.

I'll probably head over to West Hollywood today as there's a Gamestop that has demo units.

Now, when Nervegear from SAO goes on for sale, you won't be able to stop me from paying whatever it costs.

absolutely. played DK2 at PAX last year and loved it. Played CV1 and Vive dev kit at PAX this year (in Jan) and loved it. My money is on the touch controls though. I don't like the wand/wiimote feel of Vive's controls. In fact, my Rift is in the city right now, just not out for delivery until Tues :(

I am absolutely loving my Vive. Most fun i've had playing games since I was a kid... especially Final Approach. I wonder if OP even tried any of the headsets. This month Gamestops will start having PSVR demos, Best Buys are demoing the Rifts, and there are a handful of Gamestops around the US demoing the Vive (which is the best VR experience out of all them).

I'm interested, but I don't want to buy any of the current gen headsets because I want to wait until they get the technology perfected. I was very disappointed in VR in the 90's because I really wanted the tech to work and after all the hype on the new headsets I don't want to try it until I think I'll actually be impressed by it because otherwise I'll probably get turned off the idea forever.

P.S. He does have a point about the ability to drop $800 on a limited-use toy, that also requires a $2000 PC does make you "rich" at least by the standards of average, working-class people. Most of them would consider people making $100,000 a year "rich". And I know a lot of forum members here are in or close to that category.

I think the first time I experienced VR(and i was a huge skeptic, and a hater), i had a reaction of, wow this is fucking it. I felt like a kid again for the the first time in a while when it came to experiencing something that new and wonderful. I know that sounds cheesy, but it was really amazing and convincing, and i was sold that quick.

spot on

I am playing with Google cardboard VR (using a plastic headset) I like it but not enough to plunk down 600-800 bucks for it. It also has one big flaw it needs to totally wireless. That would probably need major improvement in bandwidth. When the price comes down to a sane level I'll consider it..... I recently modded a cheap VR headset to work with a Nexus 7 2013 and other 7 inch tabs I also own a Nexus 7 2012 and an Nvidia abandoned Tegra note 7 tegra 4 powered unit. Until Google Cardboard came they were gathering dust now they have a new life!!!

I wonder about the staying power after the Wow! experience wears in for awhile. When AAA games will be available vice the many alpha games available but in development and not completed? If I bought a Vive and used it 15+ hours a week - how many weeks of experience or games are out there now?

Still tempted in getting an OSVR headset, $399 is cheaper then the graphic cards I buy - also this headset has something very vital that the others do not - individual adjustment for each eye meaning I most likely will not have to wear my glasses (a rather big plus).

Now does VR make playing regular games uninteresting - flat - boring but yet has such limited content itself that you will be craving for that next gaming high in VR after a few months? Maybe years before AAA VR games are readily available.

I love VR, I definitely think it is a revolutionary new way to game. However, I don't see it replacing traditional gaming, probably ever...nor does it need to. Sitting VR...maybe, but definitely not roomscale.

I don't really want to stand in VR for 4+ hours like I would with a traditional game. It's good for 1-2 hour stretches before I'm ready for a break. But I keep coming back to it so I think the staying power is there. The games are only getting better and better.

If as some one says the wow factor wears off then VR couldl go the way of 3D TV. The price will be high at least until after the Xmas buying season. I will not buy an $800 limited use niche toy. The consumer in me would consider a fair price in the $400 range. The user is supplying the gaming class computer after all, Most non VR games do NOT need a gaming class rig. That alone is going to affect the sales of Vive or Rift . Another factor is the isolation factor of VR. Has anyone even considered that you become so immersed that something dangerous could happen in the real world and you not be aware?. Would VR possibly exacerbate issues in some people with poor mental states by further isolating themselves from reality? A good thing, VR could help get our lazy butts off the couch. l would like to see the the technology succeed. One last comment, we owe all this to the original 3d stereoscope..

The tech will take a few years to mature and become mainstream, but there is no doubt that it is the future of gaming.

I can see a PIP display, part of the hud, showing your real environment.. Could be integrated into the game as some sort of news feed with other overlays but the real environment you will have a sense of. I am waiting to see what law suites are going to be put forth as time goes on. If one trips over the Vive cable and breaks their teeth, get blinded etc. I can pretty much see lawyers jumping at the opportunity for some cash. Will current tech turn more into AR over time or keep the very isolated environment is to be seen.

Pretty sure that you agree not to sue them someplace in the terms and conditions. Not that stops people...

The Vive does have a real world overlay. It's not quite 3D but you can activate it with double clicking the home button and see your surroundings. You have to enable it first though. It can also be enabled as you get close to your border.

I turned my scanned area border on 100% of the time and as light as it gets. Kicked my desk pretty hard once... That doesn't happen anymore and it doesn't break immersion.

Here's a picture of the real world view. I could feel vibrations in my floor so I turned on the view and saw my two dachshunds playing. Also good for checking your phone, ect. Without taking the headset off.
