Do southbridge waterblocks exist?

I have been searching and I can't seem to find a waterblock for a southbridge. Specifically I'm looking for one that is compatible with a ICH7R on an Intel BadAxe2 motherboard.

If your southbridge needs a waterblock, something isn't right. A decent passive heatsink should be fine.

well, NB and SB chipset mounting styles are usually pretty much the same. The design of modern SB and NB mounting is just two holes, all you have to do to make sure the cooler fits is make sure the two holes are the a distance apart that is acceptable for the south bridge.

Im sorry, i dont know the dimensions of the XBX and XBX2 mobos, but im sure if you look around you can find a cooler that fits. take the measurements. and just check swiftech.com, dangerden.com, etc etc. Im sure you'll find something that fits.

one thing that would be nice to know, do the fans function under oil? can you use them to correct oil-flow (as in air flow w/ the oil) :p

when you amp up the MCH voltage the southbridge can get quite hot.

It shouldn't seeing as that's the northbridge...the ICH voltage on the other hand...
(at least on the Asus boards).

tell that to 680i

28 PCI-e lanes, controll over 6 Sata slots, and everything else, generates a fair chunk of heat.

anywho, to the OP, this might be something to look into. shoot em an e-mail tho.

In my experience, most southbridges DON'T have any holes around them. What little cooling they have is usually just held in place with thermal adhesives.
As such, no- I don't know of any southbridge water blocks. There just wouldn't be any way to mount them.

I'm going with Aquacomputer for my northbridge cooler, and if it's as you say you can just mount a northbridge block onto the southbridge then I may just buy two of them.

orly? I've never really looked into the issue, i just assumed.

well, you could strap on some thermal epoxy, it does exist. but, i dont expect you'll be able to rip it off the SB if you wanna swap it to the next built.

you could try to get some sticky thermal pads but, i dont know if they would provide enough grip. block might simply fall of. that wouldnt be cool.

ok ok ok..

hold on. I googled up XBX mobo pics. I knew the north bridge cooler was big but I didnt know it was THAT big. Make sure your cooler is desinged and can (for sure) fit onto THOSE mounting holes

and as for the south bridge.

Im not sure how the retention device for that thing works. If you own the board, take it out and see for yourself. if you can see holes on the bottem of the board, your set to liquid cool it. If not, then some free style modding skills maybe requred.

edit: and yeah, i got an uber high res pic from intel. it would seem it simply uses clips. so either you can mod it yourself, or juts let it cool passivly.
