Do i really need RAM w/ ecc?

What mobo do you have?

We really can't tell you squat without knowing what system you're talking to.

But in general...
Just needing ECC is pretty rare. I'm not sure if there really are PC mobos that do. I had a Sparc at work once that required unbuffered ECC PC133, but other than that it's usually Registered ECC for duals or unbuffered for single CPU systems. A lot of single proc boards can use unbuffered ECC, but it's pretty rare for it to be required. So basically for a duallie, probably, for a single proc, probably not. The exception is the Athlon FX and Single Opeteron boards. The FX and all Opterons required reg'd ECC ram.

so on the subject can u run non ecc in a server?????

like a dual mb?

and can u put those amd mp chips in boards with like quad processors?

some boards support or require ecc memory, some don't. it's like asking if you can use diesel fuel in a truck, it depends on the engine.

i don't think they make quad processor boards for athlon mp chips

ECC Memory is more or less mainly for servers which require it. You can use it in a non server computer but the majority of motherboard will not accept it.
