im running 1 gig ddr2-800 ram i using about 40% to 50% of what i have now, would i see any performance gains with another gig?

That depends, what are you doing?

Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? If you're gaming, which games?
 
IMO, I dont care what you are doing, if you are running XP, adding another gig will make you think you got a new computer. :D

For Oblivion, and most newer complex games, 2GB can make a difference. I'd say another gig would make a noticeable difference for you.
