hey guys, well my system has been acting up lately, ever since I got my HIS 5850, and I'm assuming it's the PSU....

The problem happens when I play games, or run "rthdribl" stress test. Also When I run the stress test my PSU makes a LOUD buzzing/whining noise and will crash almost immediately. But the problem is my monitor will black out for a few seconds then come back on. It will do this continuously when gaming. Sometimes it will crash and the monitor will stay off. Sometimes it stays blacked out for a few seconds then the mobo beeps. It has also crashed completely on me twice.

PSU- ultra x connect 550watt
q6600 - 3.2ghz noctua cooler
HIS 5850
2x sata 320gb
2GB RAM
1 dvd drive
sound card
2x 120mm led case fan

Does this sound like a PSU problem. I've been looking into a new one, any recommendations? Will the HX650 be a good choice????

Someone else brought up a PSU issue with a similar GPU upgrade, where they also had an overclocked Q6600. Those things suck a ton of power.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I always knew that line of Ultra PSU's weren't great, but you know I kept it around because it was so damn pretty :\

Anyways, I went to MicroCenter last night and picked up a Corsair HX650 to test the power supply theory. So far so good! I played TF2 for hours with no symptoms at all. I also ran the stress test for a few minutes and it seems stable. No more noisy PSU and overall things are quieter and cooler.

Forgot to mention that I am stuck on modular PSU's. So I might just keep the HX650 or get one off newegg since it's $50 cheaper than what I paid.
