Ello, hope this is the right place to post.

Im wondering, do I need a fan controller?
What DOES a fan controller do? I know it controls the cooling fans, that’s all Lol

My gaming PC, after time does get hot.

Just though I ask for some info on hardware I don’t know much about, my PC likes to get its hot streaks so I though I ask =/

Well the bad news is that fan controllers normally are used to slow down the fans from full speed to reduce the noise. You then turn them back to full speed when gaming.

But it sounds like you need more fans or better fans to eliminate your overheating. One thing that usually helps until you can get your fans and airflow properly done is to take the side of the PC off. Normally that helps.

A fan controller is ideal if you have a significant amount of fans in your system and want the ability to tweak the RPMs based on the ambient temperature (i.e. winter versus summer). It also gives you the ability to quiet down components that aren't automatically cycling based on temps, such as an on-board fan that runs at high RPMs (lol, like my 680i chipset fan that spins like mad). It might help you shave a few degrees off your temps and quiet down your system. I had more than 10 fans which is why I needed it, whereas most systems don't.

to the OP, I recently found out my system will need two high RPM fans to exhaust my case (will be running with two vantec tornados VERY loud), i reccommend doing a little research into your case to figure out what you think will be sufficient enough for reasonable cool levels under a load and idle.

When i start to stress my video cards/cpu, i just reach down and turn up my two tornados a tad bit, and if i need to dump all the air out every few hours, i just max it out and lower it again. Not too efficient as most here will probably tell you... but I am not a case modder and this was my best way to go, i feel it works rather well.

Well i already have one fan on the side, i had a really powerful [LOUD[ one in the rear but the sucker broke on me. =/

The best use of a fan controller is to buy powerful fans and reduce their speed with it.

A fan controller will not speed fans up!

You don't NEED one, but if the noise bugs you (and the temps are fine) I suggest getting THIS bad boy. It can power 4 different fan headers... But each header supports up to 20w (which is about THREE 2500rpm 120mm fans, if you're willing to do the wire cutting and splicing).

For 12$ you can't go wrong, it's pretty good looking too.

If your temps are bad to begin with though (you said it has it's "hot streaks") post a case pic here and I'm sure a few of us would be glad to help you cool it down a bit.

Im great with wiring, heh i used to work for a factory that made wire harness for bobcat =)

I can take a pic b ut its gonna take me awhile.. however theres err..

Its a factory case, i dont have that much confadence in my self to actly take all the hardware out then put it into a better case =/ however i know one day ill need to upgrade the Mobo and CPU. anyways yeah when i can find my Darn USB cable i can take some pictures =)

im addicted to LED lights, so one of my fans has that, i hope some day in the future i can put more LED things in =)

Heres the Picture, had to use a older camra since the better one was having issiues with my older PC, Newer camra works only with my Gaming PC, Oie..

I know it looks crappy right now, but later on when i can get a decent freelance job or well a real job i plan on getting a new case. Mobo, Power source, etc.. however thats in the future, that seems pretty far at the momment Lol. atlest when that time comes i can be happy with what i made, till then i need to do research and learn, since i barly know about mobos, power sourcs and all that =/ im still fresh blood in this, sept in gaming im good =P

Your intake seems to be blocked by the HDD and the messy wiring. Also your intake/exhaust grills are probably stock, which means they're not allowing enough air in and making the fans loud at the same time.

Jeez am I the only one that bothers to actually read these things, shame on you all.

er, wolfie, buddy, you did replace that fan, right ? If not please do so, you can find a replacement that probally not as loud.

Doom is dead right, you can get adapters pretty cheap and move that HD to underneath the CD drive, solve 1/2 your problem and with the new fan in back, you are done. Cost less than 1/2 the price of some useless fan controller you dont need anyway. ;)
