CyberpowerPC is garbage dont even say it, iBuyPower, family was burned by them 5+ years ago, I go look at the reviews and the exact same shit that happened to us then is exactly what they are complaining about still on brand new machines. Seems like they all put shit PSUs in these desktops.

So the basic question is, I have a family member that wants to buy a new rig, we dont want to spend a ton on it that would come with some custom boutique builder. But the most important thing is I want it to have standard parts so that upgrades would be possible in the future you know, now custom cases, PSUs etc.. like the big OEMs.

Seems like all that is sold now by newegg and amazon is ibuypower and cyberpower and both still have the same crappy reviews and problems.
 
Dell Vostro + new PSU + whatever graphics card? My mother's has been chugging along pretty well for the last two and a half years and it's got an mATX case and is well put together, plus I believe Vostro includes on-site support standard. If you're upgrading the GPU though, you'd definitely want a new PSU to go with it (not sure if that'll void the warranty, however)
 
It has to be all built and ready to go this first time around. Does dell use standard cases now days that will fit ATX boards, PSUs etc..

Dell uses mostly standard parts with the exception of the front panel connector and motherboard IIRC.
 
Since nobody mentioned it I'll be the first: Asus makes desktop computers, never owned one but I swear by anything that Asus makes.
 
I'll second ASUS. My dad just got an ASUS desktop, and the mobo, etc are all off the shelf.
