DLSS 5 - Generative AI

You shouldn't believe him because he is a total clown. His hardware "leaks" are 50/50 which ain't too bad of a track record I guess, but this guy is pretty much the Jim Cramer of tech takes. Read this from 5 years ago and that's all you need to know.

I take everyones word with some salt. :)
Ya I don't buy that NV is all that concerned with AMD.

My guess is he is partly correct on his take though.
I think Nvidia is worried about Nvidia.

I think Jensen knows his next mega chip is going to suck for traditional raster graphics. (like not suck suck but just not be much if any improvement over what they are currently doing) I think the same will be true for ray tracing. I think the next gen they have cooking has little to zero improvement. For traditional gaming tech, and that I guess now includes RT. If they drop a 6000 series that is only 10% faster then the current 5000 series... in 2028. I mean how is that going to go over?
On the other hand they are very much improving the bits that can apply a real time insta gram filter to an entire game. I don't doubt that the 6000 series will be a lot better at doing whatever the fuck this BS is then the 5000 is. I don't doubt what takes 2 5090s right now will get optimized a bit to run on one 5090 and poorly on a 5080... but it might run decent on a 6080 and marginally on a 6070.

As much as I hope the "rumors" are true about AMDs RDNA5 being solid. Either way I doubt Jensen is really all that worried either. This is just the 2000 launch all over again. Cards that loose to the previous gen. The 1080ti was faster in many titles then the new 2080s. BUT could they RT bro ?

I was going to make a joke about Death coming for him, him defeating Death, and then discovering that made him the replacement, but I thought a Piers Anthony reference might be a bit obscure.
How many of these youngsters here have even seen a horse in real life, let alone a pale one? I'm sure the LLMs will "explain" all this to them. ;)

Seems like the only company that is praising this is Ubisoft ... which says all you need to know about how incredibly awful this is. Using AI to help upscale games to increase performance is fine, especially on gaming consoles. Literally changing the creators' intent for the appearance of the game by amalgamating and deepthroating stolen artwork from other artists to apply as an overly filter to create AI slop is not.

i am still surprised that so many on here are praising it too

the overwhelming majority doesn’t seem to like it

i even polled the gen z, they’re telling me it’s ai slop

Don't like it. Seems like it would change the artistic style too much. I'm okay with using AI to assist in making the 3D models or textures look more realistic in the development phase of character creation, but applying it over as a filter after is not a good idea. I am assuming it will be an option to disable, but don't like how it is being rolled into "DLSS". Should be called something else. DLSS should focus on better upscaling with less ghosting or other issues.
Best opinion I've heard so far. That's the Nvidia way, unfortunately. Screw them, man, why'd we let them call the shots!

I understand that a lot of people don't like this tech, but what I don't understand is that it seems to be the harbinger of sort of dystopic future for mankind? We already have game streaming, which costs money, but still some in this thread has presented DLSS 5 as a tool for Nvidia to make sure that we will "own nothing" in the future?
Isn't this future already here and has been for about 5 years now?

And if you can choose to use it or not, why can't those who hates this just let those who think it improves the graphics in certain games use it without getting angry about it?

I'd also say that some of these people that call themselves "artists" these days is getting on my nerves with their preciousness. Most of them work for huge companies like EA and Ubisoft, get over yourself. I'm pretty sure you never had free reign to create exactly what you wanted, but got guidelines and constant meddling from managers and superiors and have to follow the art style that someone else has decided.

Engineers at NASA, military contractors, vehicle manufacturers etc etc all have to work within a budget and none have “free reign” I guess they’re not really engineers?

Nah, we don't care you don't like it, its that they are emotional captured to the point of being entertaining.

“Nvidia "confirms" DLSS 5 relies on 2D frame data as testing reveals hallucinations”

You understand the comparison between artist going on about how their "artistic" vision is destroyed by this, and the fact that their vision isn't really a free choice in the first place since there is a lot of people telling you what to do, and what not to do ? What kind of free artistic spirit do you find inside EA or Ubisoft? Can you make a cell shaded Assassins Creed if you want? They're company employees, not free artists. If you want artistic freedom you have to go to the indie side of things, and then you can choose to use DLSS 5 or not.

And what about all the mods on Nexus, have you never downloaded one of them and thus wilfully destroyed the game artists vision? Not even improved sound or textures for an older game? I really haven't heard anything from all the artists in the industry complaining about mods before.

I don’t know. It’s the defenders writing novel length replies. Makes it look like “we don’t care” is a lie.

It's like the man that claims to despise politicians is usually a man that worships his chosen politicians with every fibre of his being, and it means everything, EVERYTHING to him that you understand how wrong you are to be on the outside of that cult.

Do you understand what an engineer may want to do is "destroyed" by budgets and not having free reign? So by you're standards, they aren't engineers but rather "engineers"

Do you have an actual example of a destroyed vision or are you just going to make up stuff like "cell shaded AC" which no one asked for?

You appear to have a very good imagination, you would make a graet "artist"

I just want to highlight this part of your post because I read it again and it literally made me laugh. We now have a new, copium powered term... "free artists"

So in order to be an actual (aka: free) artists, one has to be unemployed or self employed?

It's the kind of mindset that causes this nonsense to prevail.

That's a Free Range Artist, there is a ton of them on Blusky. There is a ton of artist on deviantart that have lost their collective minds over the Ai art topic. I like Ai art but I never claimed to be an artist.
There's a bunch of engineers who are entrepreneurs that invent their own shit. That doesn't mean the ones who work for Boeing, NASA, Space X, Formula 1, nvidia, Intel, AMD, TSMC, Apple, aren't engineers because they have a boss. The post I responded to, which you also read, implied if you an artist working for a company, you're not really an artist. So I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, or it's relevance. My guess is you're not entirely sure either.

Strawman.

Use the Resident Evil screenshot as a real example. The main character standing in a narrow alley between two tall buildings. In the background is someone holding up an open umbrella indicating rain. Further in the background a small bit of sky can be seen; it's dark with rain clouds. Little light shines down into the dark alley and the main character is seen with her face shadowed. This is the artistic vision of the scene with all elements of the scene combing to bring about this effect.

Now enters DLSS5. The scene has the same rain clouds and takes place in the alley between two tall buildings. The same person in the background has an open umbrella held up. However, the scene is unnaturally lit up and the main character looks like she is walking down a fashion show runway lit up with a spotlight and perfect makeup. The lighting no longer matches the scene. The main character is no longer in shadows that should still exist but no longer do.

Artistic vision is about developing a scene for effect and ensuring as many elements of the scene match the conditions portrayed. The original looks and feels natural with the setting and lighting elements. The DLSS5 filtered scene alters multiple elements, especially light and shadows, which undermine the atmosphere of the scene to an unnatural extent and destroys the setting of a dark alleyway on a cloudy, rainy day.

engineers are engineers because they have proof that they are. correct.
You can be an artist working for a company sure but it isn't the artist vision it's the person that employees thems vision. So when people that you are destroying the artist vision that's not 100% correct unless the artist owns the company.
Destroying an artists vision… you and your friend keep saying this and all you’ve come up with is a cell shaded assassins creed. Which artist at UBI wanted to do that?

Btw, in case you weren’t aware, it’s looking more and more like you care.

This thing draws in hair that didn't exist before and now creates bigger noses.

The most jarring part was how flat everything looked? Almost like a really awkward photograph. It kind of reminded me of cellphone games fake 3d.
Almost like it was taking a 2D image (with mOtIoN vEcToRs) and repainting it before displaying it on screen.

NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Reveal Was a Mistake, Needs to Go Back to the Drawing Board, Says Eternal Darkness Dev Denis Dyack

Alessio Palumbo
•Mar 20, 2026

Dyack, known to gamers primarily as the creator of classics like Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, was quite critical of DLSS 5 as a whole while also noting that it could spell doom for triple-A developers (despite the fact that several were already on board with it by the time of the announcement), potentially reducing the usual visual gap with indie games.
