DLP Projector for gaming ?

I'm thinking of possibly selling my new LCD HDTV & buying a DLP projector.

I will be using it for gaming (XB360), PC, & movies.

My price point is $1000 - $1200 but would really like to get a good one for $1000 where I can buy a screen too.

I have heard good things about the Infocus SP 4805 & the Sharp XR-1S.

Haven't saw them in person though.

Can anyone recommend these or others for my gaming needs?
 
a comment on projectors...

you'd better have a DARK room... otherwise, they are simply too washed out... i spent a lot of time deciding between lcd projection, d-ila, projectors, etc., and after having kicked a lot of tires, i figured out that i could never create a dark enough environment for the projector to ever look as good, let alone better, than the tv...

as usual, imo...
 
definately some good advice above about a dark room..

i use a Viewsonic PJ551 for gaming and one thing i will say.. you will never have a better gaming experience visually when you get it setup right. Think of playing a video game in a movie theatre and that is somewhat of the experience.

lately i pretty much just play xbox on the projector as i have since finished my theatre room (130" Diagnol screen).. and it is pretty amazing..

a couple of points..

when you setup your desk/gaming setup you will be sitting nearer to the back of the room..

for best experience you will want to be able to dim the room pretty well.. A simple sewing project can create yourself some light proof curtains for any windows..

i guess in the end, your room you are in is going to determine how good of an experience you will have..

Also remember most projectors limit you to 1024x768 native (some will do larger compressed).. but with a good video card with AA/AF that isn't as much of an issue, for me the size vs resolution is a worthy tradeoff.

i played anything from BF2 to HL2 on the projector without any problems.
 
Thanks for the sdvice & the pics are great.

My bedroom (which is where I'll be gaming) is only 12x12.

I may stick with the LCD HDTV if this is a problem.

I don't want to trade res for size either. I want the res & I'm sure it'll be larger viewing than my 23 inch.
