Ditching EK for good, block recommendations?

Runs nice and cool with the HF "supreme" right after I clean it, but it has the bullshit EK plating Eddie EK would never fess up to and it flakes off and jams the block every few months. Then temps go up as flow drops off and I have to tear it down and clean it.

I am fucking DONE with EK. Going to buy a new block. I don't need lights or looks, just a solid performing block for my buck. What do you guys think?

I use DD, but thats no longer an option. :D

Raystorm?

I wonder how expensive it would be to get it plated properly...I have some (copper) EK blocks that I don't use...

Best performing block currently is the Koolance CPU-380.

Best bang/buck blocks are the Swiftech Apogee HD and XSPC Raystorm. XSPC Rasa blocks are also good.

I recommend the Raystorm to everyone; great flow and performance, and it can't be beat for $50. I upgraded from a Rasa last year and have been very impressed.

Im glad I found this thread, I am looking for a new waterblock also but I have to get 50 posts to get to check out or actually buy from members here =(

Well the first thing that annoyed me was that the backplate was a real pain to push up through the holes on the motherboard. It was almost like the little posts were too big.

Like Skripka said the loose parts a a royal pain. You have to put a few washers and a spring onto a screw and hold them on as you guide it through the hole on the bracket. Not a big deal but if you forget and drop some washers its a real pita. Then there is how you have to screw in the screws. That can be a pain too. Its not so bad when you're installing it in an empty case with no tubing run but reseating this thing is a royal pain in the ass. Swiftech's mounting system looks much, much better.

Its too bad about how restrictive the Apogee is.

Difference between the top cpu block and the worst one is like 4-5C max, so I would go with the highest flow/easiest to mount blocks. Last time I upgraded I went with the HK 3.0 LC version (cheapest one) and love it.

It isn't just the restriction that is meh in comparison to other much lower restriction blocks...it is that there is no one currently reviewing and testing watercooling products...to verify the worthwhileness of the multiple I/O ports on the Apogee HD.

this, when I built this system 2 years ago there were a couple different roundups or shootouts or whatever to compare blocks, now its crickets out there

Ek plating comes off if you are using Distilled water... do a google search. dont use distilled water.... simple enough to get around it ;)

Why would you run a lesser coolant because EK's plating sucks?

why would distilled water remove a plating?

Because their plating process was shit...then they lied about it...then they threatened Sidewinder with a $10,000 lawsuit due to Sidewinder warning customers of potentially poor plating.

At which point Gary told Eddy to get fucked and dropped all EK products
