"Display Wall" Question

We have a 24 hour operations center that's the focal point of client tours when they visit. The manager of that group wants a "display wall" that can be used for monitoring. I've ordered 6 LCD TVs, cables and wall mounts.

My question is, what would be needed to turn the six displays in to one giant display. Think of ESPN or so when they have multiple monitors showing one solid giant picture? Is this done with hardware or software?

For the majority of the time, these displays will act as six separate monitors, each showing different applications. We currently do this now with 4 or 8 monitors. Let's say wanted to show a video where all six would act as one large display. The six TVs will be mounted in a 3 across, 2 down arrangement.

Hopefully, my ramblings made sense.
 
Silly question: will all 6 TV's be connected to the same computer or 6 different computers?

Not a silly question at all. I should have included that. Ideally, and as of now, all six will run off the same tower.
 
find a 6 mini-DP graphics card, add 6x min-DP to HDMI adapters, connect to the 6 Tvs, setup dekstop and you are good to go.

Okay, if you want a single video to play on all 6 monitors use VLC, it can span across monitors even if they are plugged into different video cards and have different resolutions (though it cannot compensate for different PPI).

Get a cheap box that can hold a full height video card and then just add a NVS 810. Should be $1000-$1400 total cost for the PC plus the monitors, cables and mounts. If you work for a large company, that is peanuts compared to how much business that should generate by the "wow" factor alone.
