Hey guys I've been trying to fix my computer recently and have been getting a constant error of the video driver failing and then recovering. It has not stopped since I shifted my computer to a new case. Any ideas on what could be causing it? I am headed to a micro center this weekend so if it is a bad card I can just pick up a new one. I'm typing this on my phone because I am just getting very frustrated trying to use my computer
 
Probably, but... Usually a bad OC but maybe in your case it is a component going bad causing heating issues which is what causes most driver failures. But to be honest the only sure way to tell is to try another card, a free one is preferable. Although in your case even a cheap current card would be leaps and bounds better than what you have so it wont be a huge financial endeavor.
 
have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your drives? if they got corrupted, it could cause that problem.
 
What would a viable upgrade be? I don't have a ton of cash, but if anything current would be better I am very willing to try
 
Also I have uninstalled the drivers and it works fine with no ati drivers. I even tried to not install the catalyst control center but that doesn't work. It doesn't freeze as frequently but still does
 
You could probably get by just fine buying a new r9 285, 280, 280x, 380, 380x..check newegg prices and have them price match if there higher.....all these cards will be a substantial upgrade from your current card....regarding your current card...well when the hardware fails its normal to have issue after installing the driver, so i think your card has gone bad. the good news is xfx should still cover your older card so at least at some point you have a working backup card.
