I'm having an issue where my display will crash to a series of horizontal lines about 1-2 pixels high and stay that way for multiple seconds then the computer will reboot on its own or occasionally hard lock and I have to manually reset it.
The problem seems to occur in three primary ways:
1) When I'm playing a graphically intensive 3D game (although this doesn't always seem to happen).
2) When I've been watching youtube and/or twitch streams for a very long time (3+ hours).
3) Some combination of watching videos and playing a less intensive 3D game.
The crash will typically occur by no longer responding to inputs with the mouse, followed a few seconds later by the monitor no longer refreshing (I can still hear audio and even use TeamSpeak to talk to others during this portion), about 10-30 seconds later the computer hard locks to the horizontal lines mentioned above.
The problem is very intermittent. I've gone a month without an issue and then sometimes it will occur twice in the same day. I seem to be able to force the crash by playing anything in the DCS: World series of sims. The sims are very memory and GPU hungry, so I don't know if that is related.
So far I've run furmark and the passmark benchmark programs just to verify that loading the CPU/GPU isn't going to cause the crash. Additionally, overheating doesn't seem to be the issue. GPU and CPU temps stabilize within normal limits even at full load.
Any thoughts as to a likely cause or how to troubleshoot?
