Disabling Windows software RAID0 question.

I have 2 1tb drives in RAID0 made in windows (not in bios) and I recently bought a 4TB drive for more storage. Due to limitations in my motherboard, I was forced to purchase a new mainboard with UEFI bios because my previous board won't even recognize it.

My problem is I don't have a way to back up the data on my raid stripe. Is there a way I can do this?
 
You can plug in the 2 drives consisting of the raid0 array in the new computer, Windows will detect it and import it.
 
Seriously? I thought that by removing any drive from a raid 0 stripe destroys the raid
 
That is a some what true statement with hardware raid. Your setup is using windows software raid. If only one drive is plugged in, windows will detect the other drive is missing and your array will be missing. Since the array is missing you can't modify any data, thus not destroying your array. However, if you plugged in one drive and you re-initialized or reformatted it you would loose the array.

I run windows raid0, i've moved it between computers, even esxi vm's, never had an issue. Just backup your important data for insurance.
 
Old sata ports can't use 4TB hard drives? How do I know if mine can or not?
 
some boards cant see the full 4tb size, newer ones can.
breaking any drive in a raid0 should cause the machine not to boot, since part of windows is on one drive and part on the other (hence a stripe across both disks)
Raid 1 can be split up and moved to other machine
 
the op says he has a windows raid0 array. windows raid converts your disk to a dynamic partition. You can't install the OS on a raid0 array, only convert an existing OS install to a dynamic raid1 array.

Yeah, I just use the array to record fraps videos to and store music and movies. I'll give it a go tonight or tomorrow and report back what happens. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to purchase another external to back up my files so I'll just keep my fingers crossed. Shouldn't be an issue after further research though. Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure how to know, just plug it in and see what happens. Some boards can read the drive and only show what your bios is capable of reading, like 2TB or so. My board just plain doesn't want to read it. It showed up in bios once, but only once. Just know that no UEFI bios = no dice.
