Game is absolutely gorgeous on a DX11 card. I'm currently using a ATi 5870 w/ 9.11 drivers. I downloaded it off steam & it runs pretty good. On some of the tracks the steering seems a little sluggish. Might be by design though. I'm sure there's different steering characteristics on different vehicles.
The shadowing & FX are A#1
Looks so good it's hard to play the game & not stare at the graphics.
I recommend DiRT2 to anyone w/a DX11 card. If you don't have one I'd suggest wait. I've seen it on a EVGA GTX 285 ... looks a lot different.

Op you're full of DX11 wonderment. It looks fantastic on my 4890 and ran perfectly as well. 0 need or want to upgrade to a DX11 setup until it's in full swing in the next 6-7 months on games. Then the hardware will be very affordable.

Great game and runs well on my sig rig even though it only uses on of my 280's, no built-in SLI support but the game runs so well maxed out in game settings at 1920x1200.

Or a more trained eye

I don't doubt that there is graphical improvement running DX11.. If I can tell the difference between 70hz and 100hz and 85hz and 100hz for counter-strike then I'm sure I can tell the difference between DX11 and non DX11..

Point being that it looks amazing already if you don't have DX11 and looking at the side by side comparison shots that Kyle put up.. does $250-$350 warrant the difference for me right now? Meh - DX11 improvements look nice but they aren't overwhelmingly necessary.

To use an example, I was playing Max Payne on software back in the day on a Geforce 2mx and a friend of mine went out and got a Geforce 3 Ti500? The difference was huge huge huge in performance and eye candy. I just don't see that kind of a difference yet. Not worth the cash right now on the current market.

I quite enjoy it in DX9 on my 285, though I certainly would have liked to be playing in DX11 specifically for the tesselated water. However, as I'm not (this is not flamebait or meant to offend anyone....) willing to jump over to ATi's camp for the 5-series due to the fairly prevalent driver issues they've had recently on new games, I will be without DX11 until at least Q1 (when Fermi debuts). Provided Fermi is decent, I'll probably make the leap, and hopefully then we'll have some decent DX11 games available that make even better use of DX11.

On a side note, I'm really enjoying Dirt 2.

Dirt2 GUI is horrendous and is pure consoleitis but the game itself is quite good but I wish it had realistic rally stages instead of the arcade style they went with. Rally stages are much longer than 90 sec to 4 minutes. Grid turned me off for the same reason, real races are far longer than 3 laps.

I've ran Dirt2 in both DX11 and DX9 and they both look very good. DX11 mode does cause a performance hit so run in DX9 if you want an even smoother running game. Who really notices subtle eye candy difference when you are racing at high speed? I don't.

seriously, I don’t know how I’m getting all those high frame rates with these amazing graphics! the car interior could’ve been better though (NFS Shift comes in mind) but that’s ok since I don’t use the cockpit view. flashbacks are great, finally I don’t have to redo the whole thing because of a small mistake.

when I bought the GTX 285 (gamming @ 1680x1050 only) I was planning to skip the next generation (GTX300, HD 5xxx) and wait for the GTX400/HD 6xxx, but then came the DX11 thing to ruin my plan, this game gives me another reason not to ditch the 285, not because it doesn’t fully utilizes all the DX11 features whatever that means, but because it still can look damn good in the DX9 mode. however... bad company 2 will say the final word.

Sorry didn't mean to imply non DX11 cards couldn't run it.

Just felt it wasn't worth upgrading for one game. I haven't seen any other DX11 games but this one. Got it for free when I bought the card. Just been waiting to download it since October. :D

But yea game rocks & I'm looking forward to getting a few more DX11 games.

Yeah fantastic game. Steering characteristcs change with the surfce you're on, it's much easier to spot when you have a wheel plugged in with force feedback because when you're on tarmac the wheel tightens up and is harder to turn to simulate the grip you have, and the car sticks to the road a lot easier. Then hit gravel and the wheel losens up completely and suddenly becomes less responsive.

The sharp transition between the 2 is fantastic with a force feedback wheel especially after a grueling gravel/dirt course and you transition to lovely lovely tarmack and get control back :)

I was not a fan of Dirt 1, but I'm enjoying Dirt2.

I think they finally figured out this thing called gravity.

I like the game; free w/ video card. Even went as far as getting an xbox controller for windows to play it ($28 @ Amazon). For me, steering w/ the xbox controller is tough; I just can't seem to get it right (just dead zone and saturation); and no or few adjustments to get the sensitivity right. I know, I just need to learn the controller, but it's sure coming slow.
.

I would never buy the game, but its fun since it was free with my 5870's. Gave one to a friend and we did multiplayer for hours last night, pretty funny.

It looks beautiful on Ultra!

Any recommendations for a good wheel for this game? I might go get one today ... Fry's is 10 minutes away.
Anyways if you have a suggestion post a link to it's web site too if you can.

I'm using the Logitech Momo racing wheel:

It's pretty cheap though...and the lack of 900 degree steering ticks me off. It's not a true driving feel like you think it would be. I bought it at BB kind of a rush purchase. It gets the job done and does make it more fun to play vs. using the keyboard, so I guess it wasn't a waste of money.

I'll be ordering the G27 later. Looks like a MUCH better wheel although I will say, I have never used one personally.

Head to newegg.com

Buy two Logitech products and get 20% back.
i.e.
G27 for $255 + $10 filler item only costs ~$212.
or
Driving Force GT which lacks the clutch and shifter for $110+$10 and the actual cost will be $96.
(Or buy refurbished at overstock.com for $65).

Man those screen shots seem claustrophobic coming from EyeFinity lol.

I am pleased with everything but the wasted time in menu's starting at stats I dont care about.
Graphically and game play game is great. Online play is annoying to get in a game, I dont need a server list but so far I have had little luck getting in a non laggy good game or one at all.

Not a game I would have paid for, probably would have paid 25 - 35 on sale had I not got it for free.
Enjoying it quite a lot.

Did you just recently buy the wheel? because you have 30 days to return it. best buy will price match fry's on their Driving Force GT deal. So it will be down from 149.99 to 99.99, same price as MOMO at bestbuy.

Just played another hour with the wheel and wow.

There's something about the graphics... They have all of the fancy effects yet everything is still crisp. It's great.

The Z4 in all-star mode is amazing to drive. Sideways all the time.
