Well I am despertaly wanting a Digital Camera here, but my funds are faily limited. I've found a couple that I like but the only problem is the 3.0MP ones are CMOS lenses with a Digital Zoon (which I know I don't want). So my question it, would to be better to go with a 2.0MP CCD lens with a Optical Zoom? Both cameras are the same price, but would I notice a HUGE diffrence of the 3.0MP over to 2.0MP? I'm mainly just looking for a camera to take pictures to post on the internet. Pictures of my car projects and such.

Heres the camera I am looking at

Well how much exactly do you want to spend? You could get a Canon A60 for a little more than that camera and it would be a much better buy. Also, I think you are a little confused as far as sensors go. CCDs are the most common type of image sensor found in consumer digicams, whereas CMOS sensors are more likely to be found in digital SLRs. Both have advantages and disadvantages, you can learn about them here .

You are correct that you don't want a digital zoom...digital zooms are worthless.

Well the max I am looking at spend is about $150 (yeah I know I am cheap). But that still doesnt answer my question: is a 3MP hugely better than a 2MP?

if you don't plan on printing pictures and just want to put stuff online, it should be fine

Depends on the individual cameras you are talking about. Fujis 2mp cameras are about average.

Since you only plan on posting the pictures online, you'll be fine with the 2mp. A 3 MP picture is very large, something like 2048x1536..larger than most people keep their desktops. 1600x1200 is a pretty common desktop size, and most of the pictures you see posted on this site are between 800x600 and 1600x1200. Anything bigger generally draws comments such as 'Resize that' or 'Is that picture big enough?'.

So yes, for you, 2MP is probably the way to go, and 2MP cameras can be found relatively cheap. I know the A60 has a pretty nice price point now. I'd also suggest looking on Ebay for refurbished cameras with warranties. You can really stretch your dollar by purchasing a refurb with an included warranty. I found my Oly C740 Grade A Refurb and saved nearly $100 dollars, and it came with a 3 year Mack warranty and a number of accessories I would have had to purchase anyway. Also remember that when you buy your Digicam, if you don't get it in a kit you're going to have to go out and buy a memory card as well. Most cams only come with 16-32mb cards, and they don't hold nearly enough to keep you shooting through a single night. You're going to want to look for at least 128mb to be comfortable and not run out of room in the thick of things :)

Last week, Bestbuy was selling the Canon A60 for $169 with a $25 gift card. You can check and see if they still have it on sale.

Can you hold off for a bit and save up. If you can, wait and get the A70 from Canon. You will be much happier with that camera than any of the other cheepies.

If you can't wait at all, oh well just get any old cam that you can afford the base camera's are all pretty much the same (except maybe the A60).

Cheers,
