different DDL encoding cards comparison?

most likely the montego and hda-m will sound the same and have the same quality due to the same chipset.

however, what about the intel hd audio chipset? does the onboard sound do DDL as advertised? how does it sound? does it work the same way as the stand alone soundcards?

anyone who is experienced w/ the intel hd audio please post ur comments
 
what kind of probs have you been hearing about HDA? i just installed it yesterday, played a few rounds of CSS&DoD. it was awesome. Source does support 7.1! the grenades exploding directly behind really come from the rear back speakers! woo hoo! it sounds absolutely gorgeous. i don't notice any performances losses. seems realtime enough for me.
 
lol i think my orginial question is more about the intel azalia. i'm more interested in that, if i can get ddl encoding in an onboard solution, i don't want to buy a stand alone card
 
uhh the nvidia soundstorm chipset is the only other onboard DD sound I can think of.
 
I think the Realtek 880D can do it as well, but I'm not sure which mobos have it. A lot have the regular 880 which doesn't do DDL, and it can be a real pain to find the ones with the D
