what is the difference between the 930b and the 940b? and also i read that these monitors don't include the DVI cable, can anyone confirm this? if they don't, can u give a link to a good cable preferably from newegg. thxs in advance ;)

I believe the 940 is a 6-bit with a faster response time

the 930 displays more colors at 8-bit and is still decent for gaming although slower

Don't quote me ont he above though :)

I bought the 930 from Compusa for like $330+ tax

they are BOTH 6-bit panels.

I too have been looking at both of thosed monitors, mainly 940B since it has a really nice rebate/price at newegg.com. Apparently 930BF (930B is older model I am guessing) is considered faster (4ms they claim) but I am one to doubt their use of numbers, 940B's 8ms response should be plenty good (if not very close to 930BF's performance). $60 difference is big for me at least.

Here is a cable I found at newegg to use since I am fairly sure niether one comes with a DVI cable...

Definitely be cheaper than any local store.

My 930 came with one DVI and two d-sub (analog) cables.
I love my mon, but I had a big problem with lockup after installing the Perfect Suite software that came with it. Had to uninstall it (safe mode) and then hack the msconfig startup section to eliminate a corrupted entry.

i went to circuit city yesterday and a friend told me that they are going to have a $70 rebate on the 930B today bringing the price down to 330. Then i got home, went to newegg and found the 940B and saw how cheap it was. Im leaning toward the 940 because i like the silver and black better than just black, its a newer model (i think), and i like the base better than the 930's. Not to mention its over 15 bucks cheaper, cc has taxes and newegg doesn't. the only differences i could find is the size, base, and the 940 has magicbright2 wheras the 930 just has magicbright.

Just to make things clear, looks like he's asking about SAMSUNG's SyncMaster 930b and 940b, not VIEWSONIC VP930b. They are very different monitors, so don't mix them up (stupid naming).

I tried 930b myself, first hand. It doesn't come with DVI. Personally, I was kinda disappointed with the monitor. Very strong bleeding, and the colors were a little non-uniform. The bleeding was not just a tad visible, you noticed it right away, it spread through top and bottom of the panel. The image was sharp though and looked very nice after calibration. Bright pictures and scenes looked really nice, and the fact that I never used 19" LCD added to the effect. It's just so huge, you kinda feel like you're in the game.
Someone on this forum wrote a review of 940b and they seemed happy. Look around. If you're gonna pick one of those then I would say go for the 940b as it's a newer model and hopefully got some stuff fixed.

yea i am referring to the samsung, didnt know viewsonic made a monitor with similar naming. srry bout the confusion (if any)

when i was looking at the 930B in the store, i didn't see any bleeding, but i was just looking at a fish screensaver, the bleeding might occur in games? i am probably going to go with the 940B, since its newer, looks nicer and is cheaper.

940b is $309 after MIR at Newegg. Throw in the fact that you can either get PC mag for free for a year, or get an additional $19.97 rebate for that, and that bring the price down to around $290. If you're looking for an 8ms panel from a good, quality manufacturer, this price is hard to pass up.

i looked for that pc mag subscription offer but couldn't find it. could you tell me where it is on the newegg site? thxs

Yeah, the bleeding (aka backlight leaking) occured in any darker scenes and it was visible if u looked at the top or bottom of the monitor.
But hopefully your LCD will not have the same problems.

Just ordered the Samsung 940B from Newegg, hope its a winner for me!

Ah, so that's what you meant by bleeding. I had never heard of lcds suffering from colours that bleed and was wondering WTF?

One note on light leakage is that it can sometimes get better overtime. Not sure if this is due to the seals expanding or working themselves into a better fit or what. It happened on my laptop after I had used it pretty steadily over the first few months, the light leakage slowly vanished. I have heard reports of this happening to others as well.

yeah, "bleeding" is kinda misleading. but looks like a lot of ppl call it that
hmmm...that's a good sign that you heard of more cases of it going away. I also suspect that it has sth to do with the materials "adjusting" due to heat, but it's just speculation. End of ends, it's good that at least it fixes itself sometimes.
