i backed up my data to external hard drive as if i was going from old comp. to new
would this also install os in hard drive,i am going to get rid of raid and would like to
reinstall all that is the old system.any suggestions would be extremely helpfull
and even more appreciated.

-> that contradicts your second question...do you want to install the OS fresh, or use the backup?
 
iam hopefull windows and all files, this is what i dodn't as i have never done this and don't
know what all gets transfer.iam hoping it transfer everthing that was on ths computer
any guidance would surely be appricisted
 
Try DriveImage XML - it's free, and I just happened to do a very similar thing with it this evening. Went plenty fast, too - raid 0+1 on 15k drives (even old ones) tends to be fast ;)
 
during all this as i had to reinstall os,found out wd my book's are not very compatable with vista,wd defently knows about this problem,no fix yet,computer won't even boot windows with unit turned on
