Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Bah, my Barb got 2-hit KO'd by champion Stalker dudes. One moment I was fine landing a Rend (Blood Lust) hit on the group, the next moment the two dudes hit me back to back and killed me outright from full health...didn't even see what their mods were other than molten. The Rend hit I landed killed them both about 1 second after they both hit me (you can see they are still exploding even after I've already been killed...).

This is where the new crafting gives me some hope: I lost all my gear, but at least I don't have to worry about being extremely lucky with drops or being completely at the mercy of the AH once I get to 60 again.

Sucks man, Seems HC gods took many [H] chars this weekend.

I'm really glad that stash stays in HC, it gives the convenience of not having to mule and worry about item management with mules as much. It's gonna make Never(ver 2.0) much easier to pwrlvl.

Seeing all these HC deaths is making me sad. I'm only at level 28

My heart rate was up pretty much all the way through the Keep Level 2-3 because I knew there were rooms full of Fallen Maniacs waiting to take me out. It actually reminded me of walking through the Durance of Hate Level 2 in D2, with all the exploding Stygian Dolls that hit like trucks; I never really noticed it before, but a recent play through of D2 made me realize how similar the two areas are.

My damage was pretty great since everything was dying pretty quickly but I guess I didn't realize how low my resists were @ 302 AR with about 100 extra lit res, 80 poison res, 30 cold. My build utilized Ignore Pain and Overpower: Crushing Advance, as well as 1500 regen, so I thought I was doing well enough for MP0 but I guess I needed a couple more upgrades before I pushed on in A3.

Anyway: Maniac is now level 12! Onward and upward!

Already got another character up to level 52. I should be done with this game after the game crash killed my last character....but I have 9 demonic essences just waiting to be used so I can't just leave them.

The Tempest rush monk is actually rather safe to play as long as you don't run out of spirit. Get a weapon with .9 attack speed and nothing else to amplify attack speed and your spirit drops so slowly while channeling.

Got my HC monk to PL3. Still needs alot of work in my gears, my best item is my Inna's Helm :p

I feared I was dead at ~lvl 57 in act 3 Caverns of Frost when I got disconnected entering level 2  I was running without encountering any ennemies and my ally and my enchantress weren't following.... next thing I knew I was disconnected and kicked from the menus. My heart was pumping when I relogged only to see my monk... still alive. :D What a relief.

Sorry for your lost guys :(

I have over 100 demonic essences stored up from my act 1 farming, I have yet to upgrade my jc or bs in hardcore. I should probably buy some vit recipies when I hit 60 again.

Awe you are killing me here. The new crafting is so good. Its literally the only reason I played up to level 60 again is I want to craft some crazy shit in HC.

I'm not going to die again. TacoBell is going to live forever.

...found that weapon for 100k last night probably the bust buy I've gotten so far.

I'm going to use Deadly Reach-Keen eye, Mantra of Evasion-divine protection, and Neath Death Experience the entire time...So hopefully next game crash I'll have 6 seconds to get my game disconnected. I have a plan of action now I moved my power par within reach so I can flip my entire router, modem and computer off if something funny starts to happen...even though I crashed to desktop last time I lost my character so that probably wouldn't of helped but its worth a shot.

Am I the only one having 0 luck with drops?

My monk is PL3 and my last legend drop was act 2 normal (around lvl ~20)... not one legendary item since then

RNG is toying with me....

Now I know why I lost interest in the game and went to HC to revive it... but it's not gonna work for long if nothing drops... even instabrim :p

Demonic essences are only used for account bound items, right? I'd give or craft you stuff with it if I could.

yep. When they first launched it you could drop them and others could pick it up but they fixed that.

100 Demonic essences would be like Christmas too me.

Well over 500 crafts and I have gotten some really good stuff.....I'm just glad I stay away from casino's or I'd be broke.

I also remember spending hours gambling in D2 it was like crank to me.

Sadly I can't join you in this, at least for HC, I have been finding pure win since starting HC. 3 Balances, 2 executioners, The crudest boots, boj Anglers, Hammer Jammers, and Dead Man's Legacy (the Item I died trying to get.)

I have been saving my SoftCore unidentified items. I'm Making a list and video of every legendary/set item I find....sadly nothing special so far have about a half a page since I started saving them and I think blackthornes pants are the best I've gotten.

I'm at level 28 and have had 2 legendary drops so far, no set pieces, I actually had my first ever set piece ever drop for one of my SC chars the other day, and it also was crap.
I think the guy I'm playing with had a legendary drop at like level 8 or something crazy low, it was crap though of course.

I am able to rush through MP7 with max MF (550), and I see a legendary about once every other run (talking full act here). So, the drop rate does get better, but some people in this game have a lot of luck, and others are on the opposite end of the spectrum. I'd say I get one AHable item every 300 hours (AHable for me = sells for more than 50k). It's hard for normal/lucky people to identify with those of us who are unlucky, and why we're frustrated with the game.

Hey, the Pox Faulds were useful for a level or 2. That was the only legendary I've gotten in HC. In SC I had a Zunimassa's Trail drop that set me up with gold for life (162int, 174vit, 80AR), only 1 on the SC market that is close to that at the moment but still doesn't match it. Should have held on to them for more, they're more expensive now then when I sold mine.

You sound like me. Since I've started playing more again I've gone from Paragon 72 to just shy of 80 on my SC Monk. Over that time, I've had 1 item sell for anything, an amulet that I made 34m. Other then that, I barely cover my crafting costs. I've looted a handful of bad legendaries and not a single set item in that time.

Hit 60 in about 14 hours, 3 hours faster than my first time. Once i hit 60, I equipped all my starter gear again (high RA, low dps), and it made Hell trivial. I blew through Act 4 in like 15 minutes. Diablo may be dead, but 90% of his minions are still alive and fighting.

Gonna work on 4 pc inna, while keeping my EHP above 300k, then I'll think about Act 2

Thinking about reinstalling D3.
Do people sell on Gold AH, good items that is.
Or do they sell on the real money the good stuff?

Well, its been more than 6 months since I touched the game so I figured it was time for a second go-around.... I've decided to ditch my Lvl48 Wizard and start fresh.

Has much changed? Gotten better? Etc etc....

You can buy a full legendary set for less than a million now. Of course the good stat legendary set is in the billions. For each piece. So it's easy to start over because the entry point as far as difficulty is so low. Inferno 0 is ridiculously easy. You can blow through that wearing the less than one million set. I think some people made videos of wearing AH rares and doing it in 200k sets.

Don't get the impression that you need a set of legendary gear to do anything. Cheap rare gear with some of the proper stats will work just fine.

Oh so they nerfed Inferno?
Do you still need insane amount of resists?
Or will you get by with an easily attainable amount?

I'm sorry to hear about the players/members who lost their HC character. But I also admire those who play HC. I thought about it and I just don't have the courage to try HC, but it really does give a new dimension to D3.

Base Inferno has been nerfed. (I think about 25%) You don't need insane amounts of resists anymore. (More is definitely better though at the highest Inferno levels) Damage spikes have been reduced and the Invulnerability affix has been removed from Elites.

However, they've now added Monster Power levels, ranging from 0-10. Each higher level gives tougher monsters and Elites, but also give bonuses to Gold find, Magic Find, experience and additional drops.

And playing in group including the public ones gives additional boosts to those attributes. That stacks with the MP level boosts. So I would suggest if your gear isn't that good to hop in a public MP1 - MP3 group and have fun. Running MP0 would be pointless really unless you're just testing a build.

Pretty sure the 25% was the second damage nerf. This game used to be a beast in Inferno.

Inferno was an untested, unbalanced mess and should never have been so haphazardly thrown into the game at release. I don't miss the days of insane spike damage and enrage timers.

aren't there still enrage timers?

There was at least 2 damage nerfs, more if you count the MP damage nerf.

Multiplayer used to increase damage per player in, that was removed early.
In an effort to focus more on damage, defensive abilities got nerfed and monster damage got nerfed below the defensive nerfs.
With the introduction of monster power, inferno got nerfed to where MP2-3 was the equivalent of what is was before, so the default MP0 was scaled even further back.

Invul minions was removed and reflect damage has been tweaked to turn on and off with a very visible visual.

The gear requirement for inferno has been greatly reduced, without even considering the massive buffs to characters and gear, and gear drop rates.

Bosses only, from what I understand. They used to have them on elites and champs too, which was just the worst. I recall facing a pack in A2 that had extra fast + fire chains on them, which made me have to constantly displace on my DH; the result was that it took much longer to kill them, and when they enraged I would die simply from being too close to them - not even getting hit, just seeing my HP melt and then dying on the screen for no reason.

Gotcha.

I still think they need to do something to boss loot to make them attractive for farming. (the big raid-type boss fights)

They built the game like this to prevent extreme boss farming like it was the case in Diablo II.

However, the fix to garantee rare from boss with a 5 stack of NV is a good thing :)

I remember the devs talking about the game difficulty early on in the beta. They claimed that they had professional gamers from various leagues play D3 Inferno difficulty. They then adjusted the game difficulty to a level that even pro players couldn't beat inferno, then they doubled the difficulty agai for release -- hence the " then we doubled it!" expression that soon followed.

It was a failure of a decision for Blizzard. Diablo games were never about cheap difficulty --such as Inferno was early on the games release -- but about looting. Jay Wilson and Co. royally fucked up one of the most beloved franchises in video game history.

I really miss the craziness that 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 provided....I remember elite soul lashers taking out a party of 4 like it was nothing.

There is very little to fear in D3 now. Going High monster power pretty much just make it take longer to kill things it doesn't really make it that much harder.

Yeah, those were some crazy times. Elite Soul Lashers were a nightmare. I actually feared those Lashers or those fast invulnerable Elites. I remember defeating the Butcher and then dying only a few steps into Act 2 due to Sand Wasps/Lacuni. There was really a huge gap between Act 1 and 2, as well as Act 2 and 3.

I'm kind of missing the Invulnerable affix as I liked the yellow shielding. If they could rework it into something less drastic I wouldn't mind seeing it back.

I agree with the monster power. High MP's are challenging, but the balance between damage and HP seems to favor the latter too much. Maybe they could add MP11/12 or something with larger bonuses but higher damage increases. (350%/450% for example)

No I think they should just rework MonsterPower all around. Not that MP is bad. But it could be better. They should lower the HP gained from each MP. Up the monster damage slightly. Up the Monster Speed. Up the monster density. Up the count in each elite mob. Just imagine running into an elite mob on MP 10 with 7 in the group instead of 3 and at 20% faster movement speed and more damage. But only 20 million health each instead of the 60 million or whatever they are at now.

But I think they are making this game for farming not difficulty as people bitched about the difficulty.....I mean D2 was hard as shit in hell without the ruin words.

I know of a game that works that way in the end game.

I read the comments on here daily, trying to figure out what the draw of the game is for those remaining...and I just don't "get" it. How are the absolutely miniscule amount of additions/tweaks to the game enough to make it playable/enjoyable to you folk?

I often see people saying that the "gameplay" is just so much "better" ...but even if the animations and flow are smooth, the actual mechanics are so superficial...Is it still "not encouraged" to avoid damage (when players complained about getting hit by projectiles despite being several player distances away from them on screen, even without lag, the devs said they weren't supposed to be able to)?

I don't want to make this a "i love poe" post, but when playing D3, and looking at the amount of sheer content/tweaks that are made to poe on a weekly basis, don't you wonder "hey, why doesn't blizz do that, or work that quickly" or "hey, maybe all of these promises that devs have been talking about for more than a year are bullshit?" Does no one think that? Similar thoughts ran past my head about 2 months into D3's release, when I wondered "hey, why would they have whole skills that don't even work" "hey, why did they just nerf a stat so quickly, when they claimed they tested this game"...and shortly left.

I dunno, i guess it's a dead horse, but really, why continue playing this? I absolutely guarantee that each and every one of you could be playing something more enjoyable if the game is as similar as it seems to be when I last played it. Whether or not it's another ARPG, something else is out there that would be more "worth your time".

And if you bothered to read this far, is the RMAH still a means of making money, or has it been flooded/taken over by bots/farmers?

That's actually a far better idea. And one that would add more variation and differences between the MP's. I like it.

Not to sound rude, but are you bothered why people are playing D3?

D3 is far from perfect, but at least it's slowly going on the right track. (Which should have been done last year already) I play the game because I enjoy it. It's easy to get into and it's a lot of fun playing a session after a long day. Monster density changes have improved the game a lot and make farming more fun as well. I want the game to succeed, despite its bad start. It still has a lot of untapped potential.

Is D3 perfect? Far from it. Is it fun? Yes, but not for playing full days. Are there better games out there? Perhaps. But I wouldn't play this game if I didn't enjoy it. I actually recently came back from a few months break. In the end, everyone should play what they enjoy, everyone has different tastes and not everyone will like what the others like.

As for Path of Exile, I've tried it out but after a few weeks I just couldn't get into it. The game has more depth than Diablo 3, but the latter feels quite a bit smoother and polished. However, it's very impressive what the creators have done with PoE and I wish them all the best. They deserve the success and I compliment them with their regular updates and contact with the community. But in the end I just didn't enjoy PoE, but I might give the game another chance soon, but not right now.

Apples and oranges. You are trying to compare a game in beta with a 1/100th of the player's release strategies with a game in production with millions of active players.

A more accurate comparison would be with similarly scoped game released in production....Say Left 4 Dead 2 or something of that nature. You'll see that D3 actually has a pretty aggressive release cycle for a non subscription game in production.

Though their updates have been rather quick because they completely fucked up D3 on quite a few aspects....where a game like L4D2 didn't have as many flaws.

I have enjoyed pretty much every changed done to D3. I continue to enjoy D3. Thus I continue to play D3. Its that simple and you can't guarantee me anything.

RMAH was never a means of making money....except for gold farmer bots.

I have been playing POE on and off for over a year now and I keep trying to get into it hardcore -- hell I even got 5 or 6 of my friends to check it out -- but we all agreed the combat mechanics and movement were simply just awful. As deep as POE's skills/builds/itemization are, it still feels hindered by the god awful combat mechanics. Also I am not a fan of the 'art style' or grafx of the game; it's too muddled.

Yea best game would be D3 gameplay and PoE depth.

I'd still be playing D3 if there was anything at all to bite your teeth into.

Also, stevedave does make a good point about PoE still being in beta. BUT--since it's a free to play game, i'll reckon they still continue with there aggressive updates to keep it fresh.

While D3 is 'done' and released, it's far from perfect and the time it takes blizz to put out a few changes (while still ignoring the glaring balance issues with useless runes and stuff) is absolutely pathetic for a company with as much money as them. If they wanted to spend the money, D3 could have already been fixed by now.

Ultimately, Blizzard's apathy toward D3 is a main reason I haven't gone back. Not the fact that they haven't updated stuff i'm wanting, but that their entire attitude toward it makes me never want to touch another one of their products again.
