Diablo 3 - Beta thread

What boggles my mind is why they would delay a game by only a few months past their original target of Holiday 2011. They're most likely going to lose a lot of potential sales by delaying the release date as the holiday season probably sees the most game sales. This will also allow for games such as Torchlight 2 to possible steal a few D3 customers.

I really doubt they'll lose many sales at all. Pretty much anyone who's getting Diablo 3 is getting it because they loved the previous games, not because it was going to be coming out at holiday time.

Boooooooooooooooooooo. :(:( I was hoping on getting into the beta from a friend who works at blizz, but he's an apprentice there and apparently he doesn't have the privilege of getting me into it yet.

I heard today that some people are getting keys to give away. If anyone has one these keys, I implore you, as one diablo fan to another, please consider giving it to me. :D

I will be indebted to you forever, and will never be able to thank you enough. Just think of the giant smile you'll put on totally random strangers face. What a good deed it would be, akin to helping the old lady cross the street.

Edit: Never mind, I think it's only fan sites have keys to give away. So if any of you own a fan site, let me know :p.

I also ask.. if anyone has a spare key I would appreciate it very much if you can provide me with one! :)

I'm late joining this party. D2 is my favorite game of all time and I've been waiting for D3 for years! Stoked that it's coming out. I agree, it definitely looks different than D2 but I trust Blizzard to deliver a stellar experience.

My one gripe from what I've seen thus far is that some of the character classes seem kinda...boring. Witch Doctor an Monk especially, seems like they said "OK, we want a class that's like a Necro and like a Paladin, but not quite...what've ya got?"

We'll see, hopefully I get into the beta at some point but I'm not holding my breath.

Yea I'm not overly impressed with the classes. They kept the most popular, and least interesting imo, class (barbarian). They got rid of my favorite class (necro) and pseudo replaced him. The diff between a wizard and sorc? No idea. Demon hunter looks like assassin but plays like an amazon with traps. monk plays like an assassin with a pally attitude. Very very meh.

Comes off as lazy really. Shrug. I'd still try this but its ranking lower than other blizz games, which as of late are ranking lower to other non blizz games. lower and lower :(

Eh, Diablo seemed to recycle archetypes since the beginning with a little bit of sprucing up here and there. Take a look at D1 to D2: Warrior -> Barbarian, Rogue -> Amazon, Sorcerer ->Sorceress. Of course, the difference here is that there were more starting classes in D2 and 2 more in LoD.

I agree. The only class I am interested in playing is the Witchdoctor and that is only due to the similarities of the Necromancer.

I wish they would have put a Knight class in, Diablo has always had a Knight class, it feels weird not to have one. I'm sure there is some faction of Knights in the lore they could have chosen.

Expansion? Monk in plate (can be seen on the site)?

Knights are cool, but lore-wise they might be fighting with regular troops, defending towns and civilians, etc. rather than dungeon crawling.

Well to us its "dungeon crawling" but to them, its fighting the forces of evil! lol :p

I like the Monk, but I plan on playing all of the classes if they ever release the game.

I noticed that they are using Nightcrawlers special move from the old X-Men arcade for the Monk.

It looks like it, doesn't it? I only saw one beta feed where the player seemed like he really knew what he was doing with the class, I wish I had saved the link

lawl, maybe your armor will turn you blue eventually. the monk reminds me of a street fighter character. E Honda. But skinny. And Norse looking.

Yeah or maybe some shitty Quentin Tarantino character ala Kill Bill.

I'm not into playing melee classes, but there are many who are, so I don't see why anyone would complain about the Barb still being a class. Seems like they did some creative things with him as well, and at least all the visual effects in the game are fantastic.

I absolutely love the concept of the Witch Doctor, and it will be the main class I'll be playing for who knows how long. The general aesthetic to the class is great, and IMO is a really an eclectic and creative class. The mix between elemental magic and creature summoning is great.

I also love the fact that just about every skill is also as if you've actually summoned a living thing, such as the firebomb which, instead of just an explosion, actually raises up into a humanoid form for a second, like a fiery demon, before fading out. The acid cloud is not just a cloud of acid, but skeletal faces that vomit acid down upon enemies. Everything is a "living thing", even when it's not a directly summoned pet running around.

The Barb and Monk I'd not touch, the only physical class I'd play would be the Demon Hunter, which actually looks pretty cool. Of course, I love the elements, so would play the Wizard, but hoping that there's a little more variation to the skill. All spell effects look awesome D3, IMO, but just hoping there's a little more to the Wizard.

Otherwise, I'll be sticking with the Witch Doctor.

The other cool thing is that, in terms of who's spells/skills are effected most drastically by Runestones, I'd also say it would be the Witch Doctor. His skills are already interesting and unique, even in visuals, and the variations offered by Runestones make them even more so.

i want to beta test to find bugs and use my IT experience, yet the non-testers will get in. i miss beta profiles which were written like resumes where you were hand picked back in the early 2000's. i use to beta test 2-3 games a year from 1998-2003... not its luck of the draw or how much $$$ you have invested in games you dont play with the company. i'm not a wow or sc2 fan, so i have no chance even if they say its not needed. COME ON YOU GUYS OWE ME FOR MY CARPAL TUNNEL.

Jroe52, in the last decade Beta testing is usually to test multiplayer and server load. A game like diablo 3 has an army of internal testers that will find more bugs then the average none professional tester. Seems this round of testing is mostly to show off how good the game looks!!

agreed I was chosen for every beta back then now its like winning the lottery..

So far the beta has been pretty solid. The only issue I have had was a little screen flickering and a CTD (once). The game is pretty damn fun but I see myself getting somewhat bored with it.

Yea, its great fun, but there is only so many times you can run the same 1.5hrs of content. I have not played in over 2 weeks.

not going to happen :(. There have already been reports of banage due to account sharing.

Heh~ Banage...
Seriously, I would love for this to rock, but $60 when Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile both look like they might be at least as good... I loved Diablo, really liked Diablo II, but am not pre-ordering D3 (the dead and the furious) unless something really changes in the next few months.

Same here. After you play through the beta with each class, it becomes Diablo without loot or skill progression, which means it's not Diablo at all.

I've hit about 10-13 with each class, squashed a few bugs on the forums, and am hoping they give us more to test, but otherwise, rerunning skeleton king over and over and hunting for pages of training is about all there is to do.

well at least it's a couple hours or so of fun and potential to making the game better

hey i been playing with it since i was 13, 5 minutes of fun and i am still going strong.

So I have had access to the beta since the first wave of Friends and Family invites went out. I played through a bit, loved it then left out of state for 4 days. I got back nearly 2 weeks ago and I haven't even fired up the game again.. I have no interest. Now I dont think its because the game sucks, but the beta is WAY too short. I've beat it a few times already so now it just collects dust.

I'll I've been playing is the BF3 beta and Gears of War 3.

Agreed, and it doesn't quite make sense.

The game runs well enough at this point that you might as well call it a demo. All of the bugs I have found were inconsequential things (animations being slightly off, text being wrong, etc.). Yet, they push the release back for some reason. The game has never crashed on me, and runs flawlessly except for a few AH bugs they ironed out.

To me, it seems more like a balance test to see if the classes are actually fun and work correctly. They already learned the DH was broken, so they are fixing that. I am expecting them to provide more content to test out the rune system at some point.

It's going to be funny when the game comes out and myriad bugs start creeping out of the woodwork that this "army of internal testers" never found. It always happens.

Played a revamped Demon Hunter to level 13 and a Witch Doctor to about 9 on the new Beta patch. The change in skill order and resource usage really helped the DH. They toned down the number of chests to loot, which was a good thing. There was too much loot before.

They removed on-the-fly skill changing. You can now only change skills in town at an altar or at the beginning of certain dungeons at an altar.

it seems to be a big push. as a tip add the game exe files and folders to your windows firewall and antivirus exception lists. it can help prevent odd issues.

please post any issues in the beta forums :)
