Developer seen Battlefield 5

If they return to WW2, I'd pick it up. If they do modern again, I'm not going to. Not unless they diversify the damn countries. You can only handle so many Abrams/AH-1/LAV remakes.

Make it NATO vs. a new axis of evil ... Russia, North Korea, Sweden.

Go back to the formula of having a variety of country specific weapons versus a hogpodge of every weapon ever made in a US vs Russia/China grudgematch. It got old, quick.

Heck, let us play as the Swiss ... we can be in permenant spectator mode with global chat so we can make passive aggressive comments to both sides!

If its WWII everything will have scopes, lasers and whatnot with tones of SMGs and assault rifles anyways. May as well keep their integrity instead of going the CoD route. But I would like to see some other European vehicles. Bring back the Army to.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. The current gen of gamer loves their RPM. Giving them a bolt action on a non-sniper would likely not go over well. I just thing the Frostbite 3 could probably do the prop planes really cool. Actual dogfighting again without trying to break 30 different lock on alarms.

Suppose you can look into Rising Storm Vietnam. Still mostly automatics but it does have a more retro theme obviously. Not too sure about vehicles.

I do have some interest in this after they fixed the netcode for bf4, but they have to do proper map design. I really dislike the wide open vehicle conquest style maps that were in bf4; I prefer infantry combat. Many of the rush maps on bf4 were terrible to play compared to the bf3 and bc2 maps. If they have a good rush sized game mode and a better defuse mode I could see myself picking this game up. i'm sure they will work on the 8v8 game mode to try and have something for esports after bf4's failure in that department.

Screw esports. No reason to dumb down the game for those people. BF is essentially the only mainstream game with a large emphasis on vehicles left. If you don't like vehicles there is always TDM and Dom. Even Squad DM. I do agree about Rush though. Fun game mode but it sucked in BF3 and was even worse in BF4. In BC2 I played it just as much as Conquest. I'd like to see better Rush modes as long as Conquest Large isn't neglected.

I sure hope its in the near future, like say 100 years. Believable type weapons and vehicles, no pew pew lasers and such. If they rehash the same ol shit like they did with BF4(aka BF3 DLC) then the game will fail.

Maybe for you but not for many of us. Jumping on the poorly thought out bandwagon is a way to fail, IMO. 100 years certainly isn't near future either. And then you're saying you don't want futuristic weapons or technology. So what you're saying is you want uninspired fictional 3D models that behave the same as modern day stuff. That is the definition of rehashing. It would be like CoD, a series which jumps between WWII, modern and future while the actual gameplay is exactly the same.

No, exactly like I said, I want "believable " type weapons and no jet packs and lasers and 360 no scope lock on bullets with my mech. BF4 is a DLC to BF3, same ol weapons, same ol vehicles..etc. All they did was basically add new maps, aka a DLC., this is exactly what I don't want. The game needs to move forward timewise to make things different(or backwards, although WW1/2 does not interest me at all).

BF2142 is still the best BF game in my mind. I wouldn't mind them returning to the future, but too many dudebros would turn their nose at it because they need to shoot Arabs to achieve an erection.

There are only 2 things I want to know.

1. Time period it is set in. This likely won't determine if I buy it or not. I just want to know how to set my expectations. So far, DICE has nailed WWII, Vietnam, Modern day (BF2), Near Future (Bad Company series, BF3, BF4), and Far Future (BF2142).

2. Dedicated servers and 32 or more players per server. If they pull matchmaking bullshit ala battlefront, this will be a fail before it's even sold and the outrage amongst the PC community will be the likes of which few have seen. The Battlefield community on PC is one of, if not the biggest FPS player base on PC (assuming peak numbers). The only reason the backlash wasn't bigger than it was with battlefront is because the community still had BF4 to fall back on. This will determine whether or not I buy it.

If its match making the game is dead. I don't think they'd do it as Battlefront was catered more towards console gamers and was trying to be as casual as possible. But still, it was disturbing that the PC version didn't have it in Battlefront.

I just can't wait to find out the setting for the game. As bad as it sounds, that will determine if I buy the game or not.

Given how successful BF3 and BF4 were (and BF4 is still very popular on PC), I can't imagine they would do something stupid like matchmaking. They actually made the server browser have more options (tick rate, per map selections, so many filters) post-launch so that's a good sign.

I'm still playing BF4 and loving it on a daily basis. Will almost for sure buy BF5 on launch.

Good lord you are still bitching about dedicated servers. Sorry, they aren't going to give you the ability to run an unauthorized server and steal their game.

There were reports a while back that it was set in WWI, I hope they are true because that's a very under-used era in games, let online new mp focused games like BF/CoD.

Also before anyone says "but that'd be boring, just sitting in trenches" no, trench warfare was a western front thing, it never took off on the eastern front. You also saw one of highest rate of technological changes during time. You had all sorts of different weapons of all types. You had the start of tank warfare, air warfare, etc.

The variety of battlefields was also quite huge, from deserts to mountains/valleys, etc. In the Italian alps avalanches were a huge problem for both sides , imagine trying to fight on a snowy mountain while avalanches are happening.

It getting harder to tell if this is satire anymore or if people have EA's fist so far up their asses that they have become puppets for them.

He's incredibly ignorant and has been spouting this bullshit all over the Star Wars Battlefront thread, if not everywhere. He has been proven wrong time and time again. What's even funnier is he has yet to reply to anyone that has provided evidence and information proving he is full of shit.

The only way he could keep spouting off this bullshit is:

1. He works high up in EA
2. He is being puppeteered by the gigantic EA sponsored dildo shoved so far up his ass he's gurgling on the tip
3. He's just incredibly stupid
4. He's a troll
5. All of the above.

How long do I have to wait for the Battlefield team to give me Omaha beach in a modern game engine? The Battle of Britain with a server full of aircraft? Midway, with carriers and ground battles? Battle of the Bulge? Okinawa?

For a while they crammed WW2 games down our throat, then it became "never make a ww2 game". The hardware has progressed to the point that WW2 should be revisited in greater splendor.

EA just posted this Westie video about what's great about Bad Company 2 to Facebook. Hmm. Foreshadowing?

BC2 was AWESOME.

It still holds my top steam hours spent, after Skyrim ofc.

Battlefield BC3?

I've never been interested in the BC games. They always seemed less serious and smaller scale. Not my shtick for a BF game.

I'd love to see them go back to the complexities of the earlier games, but that will never happen. Considering Battlefront 3, and how each new battlefield game has slowly devolved my hopes aren't up.

Call it battlefield 1944, build it on the new engine, give us back 128 player battles w/ map sizes to actually accommodate large scale vehicle battles, and I might come back to the series. If you just give us more Halo/COD drivel i'll stay away.

I've been alive long enough to watch the industry go from stand alone RF converter pong / light gun hardware, to the first wave of consoles, the first wave of pc games, to today. When the industry was born developers didn't have the hardware to run complex code, so they focused on simple and entertaining gameplay. But inside, every single one of them longed for hardware that would allow them to code greater visuals and offer more complex intellectual challenges. As they got access to more and more horsepower it led to the birth to the Golden era of pc gaming.

Over the years the emphasis has shifted towards presenting less intellectual challenge, to greater emphasis on more frenetic twitch gratification. Maybe it's because doing things the old way is more expensive, and they just want the quick turnover cycle.

I too was born around from that time period. The deal is that to create games that challenge you intellectually, you need a great deal of time and patience dedicated to level design. A shooter can be very challenging and plan out how to defend and attack. BFBC2 was the best I've ever played at doing so. Most of the guns weren't instant gratification kills because the accuracy or damage was toned down in that game. Most of the time you had an opportunity to get into a base and make a difference in winning or losing. You had to think about what were the best places to maximize C4 placement on a building. Just simply tossing a bunch on the floor gained you NOTHING. Placing it strategically could flatten the entire structure in one click of the mouse. The game rewarded intelligent game play and strategy.

Of course there were spots where you could just overwhelm the other force. But you had to be in the right spots and looking the correct direction. That's what I loved about that game.

Nowadays companies like EA have such a high turnover in the talent pool after a game is released that you never get the same team back a second time. Never. So the magic that happened during previous development, will never happen again as it's a new set of developers hacking away at it. Companies degrade their employees by working long hours with less pay because they can hire another helper looking for a job. But those new hires aren't going to bring the same camaraderie to the development team. So expect a different type of game. Hell sometimes they don't even care about the former great project. Maybe they weren't involved with it's development cycle or have even played a title from the game series. That's why some HD remakes are so sparse in new visuals sometimes.

Most people I speak to loved BC2 including myself. It's a shame it has taken so long for a remake.

Going by all of the Q&A sessions that DICE has had over the years asking the community, "What makes BFBC2 great?", DICE didn't know how to make a sequel.

2142 was the best.

I hope if they make a sequel they get rid of the classes though. Let me outfit my player however I want.

I kinda feel that BF3 was the beta to BF4. It was clear that EA likely said "it's been five years, we're releasing it!" and DICE wasn't ready. So the extra two years helped.

Guys, reinstall BC2, there is still an active community playing the game! There aren't a ton of servers but I can find 10 or so populated in North America during the evening. I alternate between playing it (BC2 Rush) and BF4 (Conquest) and both are very fun. It is sad that Rush in BF3/BF4 sucks because the map design doesn't suit that game mode. Excited to see what the announcement is on Friday.
