Developer seen Battlefield 5

i still have BC2 installed. the last time i loaded up a game (a few years ago) the servers were pretty dead. i'll have to try again.

Battlefield is shockingly the only true vehicle multiplayer game around, for us PC die hards, and they make a pretty darn good game, some versions better than others obviously.

BF1942 is an all time classic, as was BF2. The current BF3/4 are good too, but not killer awesome.

CoD doesn't even get mentioned, that game is pure shit, it's arcade BS for Junior High kids, Call of Duty isn't even in the same category as BF.

I loved the dogfighting and fun action in the WW2 based BF1942, it's long overdue for a fresh take on a brand new game engine. BF5 set in WWII would be an instant hit, but if it's just more of the current slightly modern combat of BF3/4 it will just fade away.

This is what annoys me. There are a few other games but they're all free to play, and those obviously play differently. And BF is a little too simplified as it is only half vehicle based. And there are even fewer (essentially zero) vehicle based SP games. Aside from racing. This genre died in the mid 2000s.

Well apparently it's set in an alternate universe WW1.

Gonna be terrible.

I hope that is a really clever joke. If not I may just pass this up. WWI and a man with a cape. No thanks. With luck this will just be another Hardline and they release a proper title the next year.

Or just the campaign is set in a silly setting and the MP portion is modern with some WWI weapons thrown in for fun. I'd be fine with that. :p

I will keep an open mind here before seeing the in-game videos. But I like the fresh and original idea, of trying something different with the WW1 setting, could be really cool, or could be crap, who knows ? But I'm cool with them at least attempting a new genre, as opposed to the total crap CoD series, which just sucks balls, that Call of Duty game was only good when it first came out as a WW2 single player game, every release after, sucks donkey dick.

But I do wonder how a WW1 shooter will work, and still be fun ? The Tanks were slow moving, the planes not that powerful, and trench warfare was brutal and close, how do you translate that into a fun action shooter ?

It is actually ironic you say that, because BF is chasing CoD now. Rather than improving the game they just threw their hands up and decided to go with a silly theme. I would have liked some better vehicle mechanics this time around. They had been essentially unchanged since BC2 with the oddball 8 shot burst limiter on the IFVs. I would have liked to see more specialization between the vehicles and more types (European vehicles, Leopard 2 and whatnot). BF4 went backwards in that the reticules between the Russian and American vehicles became the same and the tracked APCs are absent.

Plenty left to for the modern era, but I suppose innovating was too difficult. So now more than likely we'll just get the same gameplay cut and pasted into a WWI setting CoD style. And because doing WWI justice would be a pain, they likely had to do an alternate setting to justify unlocks and the same old gameplay with dull content. But at least there are capes. Superhero style.

What?

How is BF chasing CoD? CoD never made a WWI shooter, cod is going for the futuristic (now in space) market. So how is BF going back to WWI just them "Chasing" cod even more? They are going in the complete opposite direction.

Silly theme? WWI was HUGE and it's been largely ignored in video games, where the few that do try it focus almost entirely on specific areas (IE Verdun) or the western front of the war and trench warfare.

It was a WORLD war, there was a LOT more to WW1 then just trenches and stalemates. The entire eastern front never devolved into trench fighting and It saw some of the largest battles in all of history, like the Brusilov offensive.

Also capes? Superhero style? That's a rain cape (aka poncho aka groundsheet aka gas cape) which was a standard issue item to soldiers in WWI to help protect them from the elements and later on also helped protect from gas.

Also the club he's holding is a "trench club" and soldiers used them in the trenches for close quarters, as bayonets weren't nearly as good, things like shovels (Which is shown in the trailers as melee weapons too) were also used along with knives (ironically many made from bayonets) and even things like axes.

He isn't talking about setting, he's talking about gameplay. The BF series has slowly devolved towards closer quarters style gameplay of the CoD/Halo series. It began with BF3, and really took a nose dive with BF4.

I have no hope for this game given battlefront 3, and the latest BF games. They are pandering to the instant gratification market with these games and the complexities of the earlier BF games has been completely lost.

Who cares what a CoD guy has to say about Battlefield. CoD sucks balls, and is not even in the same category.

Battlefield is about huge vehicle combat set in gigantic maps in an open world go anywhere you want. Plus BF is a team based game with specific objectives. It's meant for hardcore PC Gamers :)

CoD is an arcade brain dead shooter game for kids, that like dumb death match games. And is designed for the console crowd, which don't appreciate real shooter games.

A keyboard + mouse is the only to game a shooter. Not some toddler gamepad.
