Destroyed my mobo... options?

So - my PC (sig) was crashing & rebooting with my newest games...
- I kept dialing back my graphics options, updated my drivers, etc.

I could see my HS Fan was full of dust and I decided to clean that shit... but when I pulled my CPU - I saw some Arctic Silver spooge on the mobo pins and tried to clean it off with a q-tip & alcohol - but the cotton got snagged on the pins and one thing led to another and the mobo pins are now bent to shit & I don't see anyway to fix it without a microscope & a high end manufacturing robot arm... :(

I'd like to just replace the mobo with an exact duplicate and hope my OS does not notice, but I can't find a exact model # replacement anywhere at a reasonable price.

What should I do?

I think I should buy a new LG-775 mobo + SSD HD
- next = reinstall Win 7, slave my old HD, back shit up, wipe it and move on.

PS - please suggest other options - or link the best mobo & SSD if this is my best option...

LGA 775 is now on its way out of production. There are currently hardly any worthwhile LGA 775 motherboards in production any longer - and the few that are still available are mostly microATX boards with the cheapo G41 chipset and require DDR3 memory (and they all probably cost much more money than they are currently worth). Becuase of the seriously limited (not just in quantity, but also capability) motherboards for that socket still available, I'd strongly recommend getting a new CPU, mobo and RAM all at once.
 
Probably when hell freezes over - OR - the economy improves...

Hey Danny Bui & tiraides - and everyone else...
[H] has helped me learn a few things over the years, so I was wondering...

Since I have a fresh Win7-64, 1TB HD, 8GB ram - what should I do now?
- I want to run minimal services for gaming & cover my ass for backups

Anyway - I split my new HD into 1/3 OS & 2/3's DATA
- I use dropbox for some webdev, sharing, my resume & small files like that...
- I offload video & big files to an external HD enclosure & manually sync x2 disks.
- I don't think I'll loose anything after I slave my old HD... (see PS @ bottom)

I guess what I am asking - is there a great CYA backup feature in Win7?
- I'm new to WIN7, but I noticed a lot of giant "GET STARTED" icons.
- they are for importing an old PC settings and stuff like that...

Also - are there benefits to running a VM for your everyday PC - or as your game rig?
- like - install WIN7 & fully update the OS, update video drivers, install Avast AV, etc.
- install VM & then create a VM from the new WIN7 to run as your daily OS?

Should I then "live in the VM" or just use it to test new software?
- what about gaming? Is a VM any better for gaming?

I am a noob to VM's, but I ran an OSX VM on my old XP so I could try the iPhone SDK

OK - starting to just think out loud now...

Maybe I should install OS, updates, new drivers, fav games, create restore point.
- keep software installs (damn you Adobe) & app services to a minimum.

Create a VM and install all my development & test app crap in there...
- use the boot up OS for gaming and the VM for all extra software...

I guess I am all over the map here - so can I get a few opinions?

- chipset driver differences - but what else?

That HD was 1/4 XP OS, 1/4 WIN7 OS, 1/2 DATA

My old HD was a 1TB - split in 1/2 = XP OS & 1/2 = DATA.
- my kid got a virus on the XP - so I split my XP partition & installed WIN7 to virus scan.
- got my XP OS back from the virus & never ran WIN7 again.

Why would you not run windows 7? That will not make sense to most of the people on here. You could see what you can find as far as a new motherboard on ebay. You may find the same board or possible something better for cheap. Just a suggestion.

I am running WIN7-64 now... and I will be from now on...
I'm asking about benefits or strategy RE: running a VM (Virtual Machine).

My old XP OS had a TON of miscellaneous software that I want to keep running - exactly as it was all installed...
- plus - I'm loosing all my old game save files & a lot of software that will just be a PITA to reinstall & unlock, etc.
 
That's fair, I don't believe the OS will boot with a new board. If you found the same board it may, otherwise it will probably just BSOD during boot up. Running it as a VM, I have no clue. Not within my area of knowledge. Could you get your game saves back by copying the game saves folder? It will depend on the game where they are stored, I know BF:BC2 stores them in the documents folder. But the best of luck to you.
