Desktop choppy while gpu folding but not games?

If I game while gpu folding I can game fine, as far as I can the gpu client gives up priority, but on just the desktop the mouse and menus are choppy. Is there a way to fix this? (gtx 570 latest drivers, fermi gpu tray client)
 
Have you tried another driver set?

I'm not sure what might be the problem.....

When ever I had the issue back when I GPU folded, it was that the desktop was no hardware accelerated and enabling areo fixed that.
 
275.66 (or what ever it was right before 280) does it as well.
 
I've had similar issues with internet explorer if pushing video cards. I just cpu fold now
 
I'm using the 275.33 driver and no issues. I also disable Aero while running one or two games with the compatability tab on their shortcuts and have no issues when quitting the game and going back to Aero desktop. Have you tried a 'clean' re-install of your drivers?
 
Check your clocks, make sure they're ramping up on the desktop. My GPU used to get really choppy on the desktop, because the GPU wouldn't ramp up to full 3D clocks and the GPU usage requested by the client basically made the desktop unusable.

I second Pedantic's motion. I had a GTS450 which I'm RMA'ing which all of a sudden would only run in default clocks (very low) not 2D or 3D. The 'graphics' tab on CPU-z is a quick and easy way to see the various clocks. See what is reported as current.

msi afterburner might be useful as well
