I'm comparing a U2311h and U2312hm side by side at my desk: at the same luminance (160 cd/m^2) as measured by my calibratror, the U2312hm looks more vivid / perceptually brighter. Interesting, guess that's CCFL vs LED.

I actually have 2 U2312HMs side-by-side -- one an A00, one an A05. Calibrated both (used different RGB custom settings to get to 6500k though -- so out of the box their temps were different) and through calibration they've ended up pretty much identical. Very hard to tell a difference between them aside from one having a little bit more backlight bleeding than the other, but neither is very bad.

The contrast ratio is a bit lower on the U2312HM though (~450 vs 550) due to a slightly higher black point. Still, things look more "vivid" on the U2312HM as I described earlier. This is at equal luminance and equal calibration to D65 and gamma of 2.2.

Um, I tried the custom driver.inf file earlier in this thread to enable 72 Hz and now I can't use my monitor. Whenever I plug it in, my laptop's screen keeps turning off and on and I see nothing on the monitor, plus I get lots of "graphics driver has recovered from a crash" errors.

I can't uninstall the driver because the monitor doesn't appear in Device Manager unless it's plugged in...

You can use my program to delete the resolution even if the monitor isn't connected: Custom Resolution Utility

You can also delete the monitor to reset it back to the default configuration. That won't uninstall the driver, but it will delete the EDID override.

Well, I'm trying to get mine replaced under warranty because the backlight bleed on the lower right is really starting to get to me.

I sat on hold for 45 minutes before my phone was about to die and I hung up. Then I went to their forums since I'm not in a dire hurry to get it replaced, and this is the answer I got.
Needless to say, I'm disappointed. I'm not unrealistic and I don't expect 100% uniformity, but am I the only one that sees that? I just showed my wife and even she said "wow I didn't realize it was that bad."
If I spent a grand on the 30" like I really wanted to, I'd be really miffed to find out only the center 2" needs to be uniform. :( Hopefully I can get this worked out and end up satisfied, because I've really liked their monitors in the past.

edit: Phone support and Dell forum were no help. I sent an e-mail to Michael Dell and executive customer service got in contact with me on Thursday asking for my order number, phone number, and the best time to call. They called yesterday, arranged for an exchange, and overnighted me a brand new monitor which I have up and running now, with none of the nasty bleed as above. A little in the bottom center but not noticeable unless on a completely black background. So yeah, A+ service but I had to go to the CEO.
edit2: Rev A00. Manufactured Nov 2012. No buzzing.

Ok guys i really need your help right now, for about 3 months i keep buying new monitors and sell them because i want one that is good for gaming.

I don't tell the story because it's long. I bought 2 dell u2312hm, and they both turned to have some bleeding in white area, left-down, on white color they displayed some white-yellow-ish color, and i didn't kike them, so i RMA'ed them. Now i have a VA panel benq, and the colors are very nice, the white uniformity is very good, but i have MASSIVE ghosting in games and windows (and overdrive doesn't help it, it makes things worse). So, you will say that for gaming it's best a TN panel. Trust me i bought a TN panel too, a premium one and the colors were washed out even after calibration, so i will not buy a TN panel anymore.

So, right now i will RMA my VA benq tomorrow, and i looked on my local it store offers, and basically the one good brand, and IPS panel they have is the U2312HM. I am about to risk a third time to buy that DELL IPS monitor, because i remember tested it last year and was great for gaming, basically NO ghosting at all, and the colors were awesome, only negative thins about that dell u2312hm was that white uniformity in the down-left area, shows like this only on white color, on other colors, like a wallpaper you will not notice it.

Also i know this problem varies by revision to revision. My 2 RMA DELL u2312hm from last year December, whey both were revision A00 August 2012, and i realized this is the problem. After i will RMA my VA benq monitor, i will put them to search for an older revision, from 2011, i suppose. Do you think they will still have the chance to have it, or they will give me another A00 August 2012 revision, with that same problem, as the 2 dell's before ? Also, now what is the latest revision for this U2312HM, something from 2013 ?

All three U2312HM came at the same time, but I only have opened up one so far, as
my three screen mount wont be here for two more days. I removed my Acer GD235 monitor and replaced it with one of the Dell monitors. I used the power cord and DVI cord from the
Acer monitor. The ease at changing things to game mode and lowering the brightness was a snap, and the controls are the most easy to figure out Ive ever seen. I then upgraded the
drivers for the monitor on the Dell website.

I bought three to be able to play BF3 in Nvidia 2D surround, but I have not purchased the
second GTX580 card just yet, that will come tomorrow. I then logged on to battlelog and started the new EndGame Snow one and rode a motorcycle. This was my very first time
ever playing on that map, and so far its not very good. I think my new screen needs to be
seriously calibrated or something. The Snow was way to bright and it was BLUE and not
white. As I drove around, some of the roads were a very bright yellow that just did not look
like the makers of the game would want that much of a bright yellow on a road,

I am not going to open up the other monitors until the mount comes, but I hope in the meanwhile that I can figure out what to do with the terrible colors. I used to run everything on ULTRA with BF3, but I recently changed everything to medium and low. I dont know if that could have anything to do with this, but my other acer monitor sure never showed such weird colors.

    Help me ObiWan !!!

Hate to say it over and over again but spend a bit more and get the Eizo FS2333. Done and done. Faster pixels, even less input lag, and 10-bit LUT to 8-bit output. Not this 6-bit dithering crud. 1000:1 contrast 100% sRGB, 77% aRGB. Very uniform 5-year warranty no bleeding on mine. Best 60hz IPS on market for games. Best Semi-gloss AG coating as well. How much have you spent already in time and RMA? Is it worth it going Dell again?

I dont know if this YELLOW crap is from my new Endgame BF3, as Ive never played it on any other monitor, or if its my new Monitor ( U2312HM ) or if BandiCam records what you see or what the
game is on the server or what ??? HELP with this..........Please if you know ????

I found the fix, and now everything is great. It ended up being a microsoft upgrade and it messed with many other people as well.
It would have happened with my other monitor and not just the new one, but it sure freaked me out. All good now !!!

I just received my u2312hm on Wednesday. And am running it right now and Holy fuckballs! I am amazed and super duper happy at what this low input lag monitor brings to the table! Instantly, I noticed the difference coming from my u2713H, launched CS:GO and joined a DM server. Gone was the feeling of my character having 200 lb extra weight. I move my character in any direction and pretty much instantly snaps into position. My shots are on point as well. Input Lag is no lie, people(including myself) saying that input lag on monitors like the u2713H, u2711 is not noticeable, stop kidding yourself, the difference is fucking night and day.

for the $165 that I paid, this has got to be the best decision I made in regards to enhancing gaming performance in the last year.

Yeah, the trade-off is PWM screen(not really affected by this) smaller screen and lower native resolution. But as a gamer first had, this compromise between good performance and PQ was a good one for me.

The Yellow crap was a microsoft problem and was easily fixed.

My surround Nvidia three screen 2D screens are very nice. I was worried about 8ms instead of 2
but Im not noticing any difference from my 2ms 120hz Acer GD235HZ monitor at 60 hz.

Playing Endgame and jumping a motorcycle in the air is just fantastic !!! You feel like you are
really flying compared to just a single screen, that side vision is just great.

    Thanks

PS All three of my new screens are perfect, no bad pixels and no bright spots anywhere.......for 599 delivered to my home, I cant complain.

I figured I'd pop in here:

I have two of these: an A05 made summer 2012, and an A00 made december 2012 (that's right kids, they're shipping the crappy A00s again!) And they have serious yellow tint issues. Still. Are they just making room for a 2313 model?

Lesson learned: buy all monitors at the same time.

Oh, and stop giving Dell money.

Got my U2312HM... A00, what the fuck. Oct 2012 build date.

Also, this monitor sucks. Huge amount of backlight bleeding from the right side and it makes my Saturn wallpaper look horrible.

Sure it isn't a U2312HMt? They seem to all be A00. Check the label.

The backlight bleed problem is a lottery - mine is fine, fortunately.

I'll have to look again. Was only checking for the revision.

I did find a Dell post that states the little t is a Dell identifier to where it was manufactured, that's all.

I must have the worst luck then because all the monitors I've bought (something like maybe 4 now) have had bad backlight bleeding. Going to do some dark room comparisons tonight but I can guarantee my old Asus TN and my GF's Asus TN are not nearly as bad.

The uniformity is what kills it. The icons in the lower left (typo in other post) is noticeably brighter than the rest of the screen.

I own two t models - one is an A05, one is an A00. The A00 was made after the A05 (and after A06s.) The A00 is being returned to Amazon.

That makes no sense. Why would they restart the revision numbering?

I'm probably going to try exchanging this one to see if I can get one with less backlight bleeding. The monitor isn't bad and gaming on it is fine.

I just keep expecting to be impressed by these new monitors compared to my Asus VH226H.... and I'm not.

Got mine today to run as a second screen and it's "ok".

I prefer the warmer tones of my glossy Asus VG236.

The matte finish on the Dell is quite distracting and feels a bit "dirty" or greasy to me.

mine the factory menu works perfect, both in dvi-d and displayport, and i can turn on and off overdrive via displayport, so i guess your monitor has some kind of a problem, btw mine is rev a00 from jan 2013.

Got my replacement today. Feb 2013 build date. Even worse glow/bleed from the bottom left and other corners now.

Just returning it this time. Not sure where to go from here. Maybe I'll try a refurb Eizo FS2332.

whats your rev? many people don´t know... but only rev a00 is really new model... rev a01... a02... a03 and higher is always refurb models... and yes dell sell it as new... every rev is a new problem fixed... example rev a05 is repaired 5 times... own dell confirmed this...

it explain why have rev a00 in model from 2013 and rev a05 in models 2011...

Pretty sure it's Rev A00 but I can check when I get home today.

Disappointing to say the least. It's a nice monitor otherwise.

Got a Rev A00 from MC yesterday, not bad for $180, I'd say 7/10 for uniformity and it is now semi-glossy! Glow is a bit prominent (its definitely glow not bleed) but for a sub $200 secondary screen, its not bad at all.

Contrast ratio is over 1000, and color gamut is slightly higher than my primary ZR2440W, now only if I can get a decent semi glossy ZR2440W (new ones are semig lossy but the last one I got had red tinting on right), I'll be happy. I've given up on WQHD until the tech matures.

Just picked one of these (RevA00) up from Microcenter today and I'm pretty impressed so far (being my first IPS monitor ever, even if it is 6-bit). I never realized how bad the colors on my Acer TN panel were until I compared it side to side with this U2312HM. On the Dell the white is actually white whereas on the Acer white is a little bit brown/reddish. There seems to be a lot more color detail in general too. I was playing Planetside 2 earlier and there was some trim on the bottom of a wall that always looked grey on my Acer, but on the Dell I noticed it actually faintly changes color depending on who owns the base (purple, red, or blue).

The black levels are similar to the Acer, a little bit better but not much. Contrast overall seems a lot better though (darker colors are a little darker, and bright colors are much brighter). Uniformity seems pretty good although the bottom left does seem very slightly brighter. Viewing angles are amazing compared to TN, not that I plan on turning my monitor sideways much. :p

One of the primary uses for my PC is gaming, and it seems good in that regard as well. I'm pretty sensitive to input lag (I never use V-Sync because of it) but I haven't noticed any so far. There is noticeably less ghosting than on my Acer TN (which was one of my biggest concerns about IPS/e-IPS). Games look much clearer during movement (probably due to the Dell having overdrive and the Acer not having it). The improved colors combined with less ghosting really makes games look A LOT better. It feels like I am playing at a higher resolution, even though both monitors are 1080p (and the PPI is actually higher on my old monitor since it's 21.5")

All in all I'm really satisfied with this monitor. Since I was coming from a cheap TN panel even an overdriven e-IPS is performing much better in games, and for non-gaming use it's obviously a lot better.

I just want to echo the comments about every panel being different and requiring different color calibration. I tried using the TFTcentral calibrated colors first, but that left me with a strong blue tint. I ended up at RGB 94, 90, 91 (brightness and contrast same as TFTcentral). I don't have a hardware calibration tool so it's probably not perfect but even to the naked eye it was obvious that the TFTcentral calibration wasn't right for my particular panel.

I haven't noticed the anti-glare coating being a problem but I am also probably used to anti-glare coating. Every LCD I've owned had anti-glare. I usually work/play in fairly well-lit conditions so glossy doesn't make much sense for me. The stand is really nice as well, feels very well made and huge range of movement. I probably won't move it much anyway but it's a nice bonus.

I just RMA'd my REV A01 from 2011 because of squeaking and got a REV A00 made in Dec 2012... the IPS glow on the right side is yellow and on the left it's the normal white glow. What a shame, I was expecting to get a newer revision without these bugs and instead got the most bugged REV from stone age.

The contrast is better though than on the A01, it's quiet, and I can't say that I can see any yellow tint with naked eye (except the glow, but glow is glow either way so who cares what color it is..) so I'm thinking of just keeping it.

Does anyone know if the most recent revision (A00 2013, I presume) of the U2312HM has lower minimum brightness than it was in earlier revisions? All units (A00 2011, A01 2011, A02 2011), that was reviewed back in 2011, had quite high minimal brightness, around 100cd/m^2.
