Dell outlet experience?

Id like to hear peoples experience with Dell outlet, good or bad.

About a month ago I bought a certified refurbished XPS 15 9550. The one they sent me had a bad screen, and the replacement they sent had a loud coil whine. I had enough at that point, and just asked for a refund. I was not willing to pay the refurb lottery anymore. Fast forward to just a few minutes ago where I placed an order for a fully loaded XPS 13 9350 listed as "Dell Outlet New". The price, while expensive, was pretty good.

Was I right to give Dell another chance, and is a "Dell Outlet New" marked laptop really new?

I've bought monitors via the Outlet before. Never full systems though.

I tried the Dell outlet twice and both times I ended up returning the laptops because they were defective.

I ordered a "new" notebook from them a bit less than a year ago. No complaints though I do remember the display having a very minor fingerprint or mark of some kind.

I ordered a XPS 13 (9350) QHD New from Dell on Black Friday, but returned it after about a month. Just didn't seem worth the retail price. Found the identical "Certified Refurbished" laptop on Dell outlet for 40% off last month. Was nervous as to how the condition was, but it was in factory perfect condition. No scratch's, dent's, or blemishes of any kind. It appears the only difference was the unpackaging of the laptop. The new retail one had all the pretty tight fitting boxes to open up, all the accessories were in there own little boxes. So it kept up the excitement level of your new computer purchase. The "Outlet" one was literally Saran wrapped to a folded piece of cardboard, with a charger thrown in the shipping box. But, I am very pleased the laptop, it is performing flawlessly. Would definetely purchase from the outlet again.

The "new" one I got was packaged just like the refurb one described here:

Which is weird because you'd think "New" would actually mean new. I hope mine actually comes new, and not in that saran wrapping. The two XPS 15's they failed to repair before selling them to me came saran wrapped, but then again they were labeled as refurbs.

Do you have any coil whine on that XPS 13? That's my #1 concern.

Zero coil whine. I have definately heard of others with the problem, especially the Iris edition. Neither of my of XPS had the whine though

If you have, or could, try out PCSX2 and/or Dolphin, I'd be interested in knowing how it runs on the XPS 13.

I have zero experience running game emulators, so even if I installed the software I don't have any games for PS2/Wii, sorry, maybe google some gaming forums. I'm sure the XPS 15 would run them way better with Quad CPU/dedicated graphics, but then you lose the small form factor of course.

It has to be a screaming deal to even consider their outlet. In my experience, their prices are about the same as their sales but they are older systems with older components.

BTW, when I've looked, their prices change at least daily on their regular site.

Great experiences over the years...even used to buy servers from there.

From what I understand, their Desktops and laptops from the 'Outlet' come with a full 1 year warranty, but their monitors only come with a 90 day.

My XPS 13 was delivered today, and unsurprisingly it has some pretty nasty coil whine. I heard a rumor that Dell has a revised motherboard they're about to release. If it doesn't come out before my 30 day return window, I'm getting a refund.

Haven't tried their outlet but have bought refurb laptops from ebay. Got the xps 9550 and can't complain at all. Even came with a year of in home warrenty that I transferred over to my account. Price was $700 off original.

I had mostly really good experiences many years ago from the Dell outlet, but refurbs can be YMMV. It's a little surprising you got 2 bad laptops in a row.

I bought a "scratch and dent" XPS 17" several years ago for 2/3 the new price. It arrived without a scratch or dent to be found and still had all the original stickers/films/etc on it. I gave it to my neighbor after a couple of years for Christmas, and he still uses it today.

Bought two 24" Ultrasharp monitors that were lease returns with a 2007 mfg date. Both still in use today. An XPS 210 mini desktop served many a year as a game machine for lan parties. It is now semi-retired at a friend's house where his wife uses it to browse the web and play web games. A 3110CN color printer is still in service. Printer appeared to be unused and came with a set of fully filled toner cartridges.

No major issues buying from them in my experience. Purchased a XPS 8500 which had issues with the Ethernet port, still can't get it to work to this day. No biggy for me as I was planning on using the wireless card in it anyhow. Grabbed 2 of the Venue 11 Pros from them at a later date as well. One had blue screen issues that cleared up after updating the drivers, other was perfect. As far as cosmetics go, everything looked perfect, no scratches or blemishes on anything.
