I searched for the Deals for the [H]orde thread... but I could not find it.

Anyhow..

Check out this dual socket quad core:

Dell PowerEdge Dual Quad Core SC 1430 Server $729, Oct. 15 10 AM

Cheap! Dell Small Business has the PowerEdge SC1430 Dual Quad Core Xeon 5310 1.6Ghz 4MB Cache 1GB/80GB, No CD, 1yr warranty, No OS $729 shipped free. Ends Soon

Select Free Quad Core E5310, 2nd CPU - E5310

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=04&dgvcode=ss&c=US&l=EN&m_8=80S&oc=bscwfk1

I saw this at Fat Wallet and Tech Bargains.

I'm not interested. But if anyone could enlighten me... if the dual quads are starting to get cheap, and $729 for 8 cores is cheap to me... what about the next versions of Intel's server boxen? I hear that they will not be using the FB-DIMM's.... In other words, what does the future hold for us in about 6 to 8 months?

Thanks.

Corrections dual dual cores at 729 and not 8 cores... Sorry but a nice find.

My bad you are correct, there are several configurations which comes to 729 and one of them is 8 cores as well.. Pretty good deal I think. Too bad I can't afford it.

get all 8 cores for $729!

packed with folding goodness!

Think of all of the pr0n you could pack in there!

wow big difference to the canadain price, even with our dollar. i would have got a dual quad for $1000 right now.

1.6ghz makes baby jesus cry

Give me an overclockable 8-cores and I'll be there!

Edit: My q6600 at 3.4 is theoretically faster than 8 cores @ 1.6ghz

Yes, but of the few attempts I've seen, it's been a 100% success rate at pin-modding these to 2GHz on stock volts. :)

8x2GHz >> 4x3.4GHz, IMNSHO. :D

Hmm, how does the pin mod work on this one? Is it the same as like a 603/ 604 socket pin mod?

Hoobie

ooh nice
Link? I quick google didn't get me anywhere

same as for Woodcrest.
ah that's key

Cool. Worth looking in to. 8x2ghz makes a dang nice server. For $800. If the case held more drives I would seriously consider it for a file server/folder. I still might.

Conroe=Woodcrest
Kentsfield=Clovertown
Whichever mod works for the dual, will also work for the quad.

I wish I had the cash for this, I'd seriously consider dumping all three of my "main" rigs in favor of one of these. Plus, it's still only a 2P setup- XP MCE will work on it! :)

Got this server today and can confirm that the padmod works without a problem.

Humming along nicely at 2.0GHz on both quad cores.

Now to see if Clockgen can overclock this baby a little more . . .

From 1.6ghz cores? I'm so damn tempted, I had this in the cart and everything.... this potential might put me on over. ;)

Hehe - I own a graphics company. I "need" this for my office email and web surfing box. lol... :D Mostly just for a nice new folding box / space heater for this winter.

No luck w/ clockgen so far.

CPU-Z reports both CPUs as G0 stepping E5310.
Damn, I know you're pissed. G0's, and you can't do anything with them! :p Considering buying a different board? :D

BTW, you didn't write the batch code, did you?
