I wasn't sure exactly where to post this. If a mod feels the need to move this, then OK.

About 3 days ago, here at my business I received a box from Dell for someone.. I'd never heard of. It was addressed to us, but inside was something for someone else. I hadn't even ordered anything from Dell, so I shouldn't have gotten anything in the first place.

I called them today about returning the item, the foreign guy on the phone acted like it was MY fault I'd gotten the item and as though I was being DISHONEST for wanting to return it so that the person it was addressed to could get it!

It's horrible to be treated like a CRIMINAL for doing something honest. I was tempted to say "Screw you." and just keep the item. I also felt like the information that they were asking me was improper, and going to be used solely to solicit (or in this case, come and arrest me!).

I'd never buy anything from Dell, ever. This proves that the way customer service treats you matters.

This is why Dell's support has been downgraded quite a few levels. They built a great reputation over the years, but lately they've been resting on that that name, instead of actually providing good service.

Wish they would move their Customer Services and Tech Support back to the USA from India.

you should have just looked up the person in the phone book and call them.... or kept it... what was it anyways?

First off....Indians aren't Arabs.

Second....he said D-port...not D-Link.

What a great first impression to make!!!!!

none the less all of them over in the middle east are terrorist, american's arn't supposed to deal with them, so dell should be sued..... hahahaha

they are all unamerican anyways, they don't eat meat! who doesn't eat meat, i mean comeon...haha

I had a similar experience. I ordered a laptop for my girlfriend. Soon enough we got a laptop in the mail but it wasn't the correct model, windows home edition instead, but it was a damn nice laptop anways.
So I called up the company and they said they would send out the correct one and pick up the one I had. Went through the process and sure enough the next day the CORRECT laptop came in the mail.
So we had two of the same laptops, but only charged for one. We returned it to be honest. Oddly enough the service tag on it didn't even exist in their system. Not very good business practice.

I can attest to Dell's worthless customer service. BOught a 400sc (was a crazy deal for 197 after rebate) from Jan 13th to Feb 04 is when I got the damn thing.

Took a few calls to the useless customer service people who didnt give a jack that I had waited so long. I still dont have the palm zire 21 they were supposed to send me.

Well I don't think their service is THAT bad. With any company you have to deal stupid crap. Even with IBM they wanted to charge me $40 for recovery disks. I refused and told them to send them to me anyways. They did.

The key is to be patient, curtious as long as you can and then be demanding when you have to.

No, their service really is that bad. My gf just got a laptop from them. The laptop was built and shipped in a timely manner; it wasn't Dell's fault THAT SOMEONE STOLE THE UPS TRUCK :D . I'm not blaming them for that.

But then they lost the work order for the new laptop. 3 weeks afte the UPS truck was stolen, we call to find out why we haven't recieved the laptop, and the CS rep tells us it was already delivered. Next CS rep tells us it is waiting for "a part". Not that she could even find the paperwork. Next rep tells us the work order must have been misplaced and offers a $100 off for our trouble.

Fine. A week later the laptop arrives. Looks in good condition, all the correct parts. But no $100 off. When we call, the manager gets on the line and tells us the rep was never authorized to give that refund and it would not be honored. Fuck Dell.

I guess you shouln't have purchased a Dell laptop. They aren't all that wonderful anyways. Should have gone with a nice T40 or something.

Actually I really like that laptop, hardware-wise. Just the customer service that sucks. I shouldn't have to call three different CS reps to get a correct answer. But good CS is expensive, and with more competition, it often gets cut first, I suppose. Personally, I will gladly pay more for an item like this to get good support. That's the main reason we went with Dell, as the last Dell laptop we got came with great CS (3 years back).

Edit: Maybe Dell should offer a "premium package" for those like myself.

Its always weird when packages show up at your house that werent meant for you. you did the right thing by calling though.

On another note, all the stupid comments in this thread are really not needed, if you dont have something hardware related to say.. keep your comments to yourself.

Dell service gets worse by the day .... I got a client now who was told by the Dell rep that she's taking too much of their tech support time ... had them connect to MSN via dial-up ... when they have Road Runner and it's working ...

I went in and the problem are some ad-ware that got installed by her teenage son, causing the PC to slow down ...

It seems the premium that they are charging for tech support is not worth anything ...

well.....Gateway's support is pretty darn good. Just called them on a 2.98yr old PC with a 3yr warranty :). They are replacing the monitor and both optical drives that went bad. No problems, just explained what was wrong and it was taken care of after we checked a few things like the motherboard IDE ports.

I was shocked. And this was for a PC at work.

agreed... when you hire morons, you get a moron image. I've personally never had a problem with Dell. And I've worked customer service in the past, I dont downplay a company over one experience. But ya that blows ...

Is now a good time to say Michael Dell cancelled plans to move support to India? Those are Americans answering the phones, screwing up your orders, and accusing the original poster of stealing.

I know this because they're our primary competitor in the PC business section. For the record, ours are in Canada and Fort Collins, Colorado.
