Owners of the Dell 3008wfp, I just got this monitor and while it has amazing quality and picture, I seem to be getting a high frequency whine buzz coming from the back of the display. It's fairly faint, but noticeable since my room is very quiet and I'm very sensitive to high frequency sounds. Is this caused by the fan or other internal components? Does it go away after breaking in the monitor or should I get it exchanged?

I've had my 3008 since February and never heard anything like that. Might be worth a return/exchange. Dell pays for all shipping and probably will send the replacement first.

First I was going to say no. But when I leaned over and listened behind it I heard something
It's very faint, I don't think I've noticed it before - and I consider myself quite sensitive about high-pitched sounds as well.

Whine from monitors often depends on the brightness setting (with the maximum setting usually is the one that doesn't whine at all). It might vary with temperature as well (whether it has just been turned on or not).

Yep, looks like it's temperature related. The sound goes on for like 30min, but once it's warmed up (like fairly hot in the back), the sound becomes much more subdued, though I can still hear it if I get very, very close to the back side. Think I'll forgo the exchange for now unless the problem gets worse.

FWIW, my 3007wfp-hc whines on the 3 highest brightness settings. Luckily, below that is plenty bright for my eyes.

I'll check mine tonight. I disconnected the DVI cable and had the computer off, and I don't remember hearing anything at different brightness levels.

I'll check again tonight using the same method, or I'll connect it to my laptop which is completely silent and see if I hear anything substantial.

No buzzing here. I put my head to each vent in the back at 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 brightness and no discernable noise at any vent.
