wow, you think it would at least match teh 2405 or even the 2005 in terms of connectors in teh back. DVI, card readers and USB? Thats It?

I don't see a second dvi port, does that mean u don't need dual dvi video card to drive it?

nice pics btw

you don't need dual dvi, it only requires one dvi port, it says it in the .pdf for the monitor too

Dual-link dvi does not actually use two separate dvi connectors. This monitor most definitely does require a dual-link dvi capable graphics card to display at the native resolution.

from the dell documentation on their website under Product Specific Problems:

Unable to view any image / Only 2560 x 1600 resolution is available. Blank image or low resolution display Ensure that the recommended graphics card that supports Dual DVI out is installed.

I'll also point out that right above that image you posted in the setup guide pdf there is a note in 12 languages that states "To get the optimal resolution for the 3007WFP monitor please ensure that the graphics card is a dual link dvi card which supports an optimal resolution of 2560x1600 at 60hz."

what does that plus that looks like an ac adapter plugs into it? i have one on my 2405 but dont know what its for

Its for the sound bar.

Yes, dual dvi ports are not needed. What you need to drive this is called dual-link DVI which is basically two tmds onboard the video card that will power one DVI port which in turn is called dual-link DVI.

I think they need to change the name of dual-link DVI so people will quit thinking that actually means 2 DVI ports. :p

well some of us plug our monitors into 2 different computers in which case two dvi ports would be nice

what the hell is a sound bar? is there built in speakers? cause i dont know how there would be i dont remember seeing any audio inputs on it

edite.. sorry i looked it up.. sound bar looks dumb, unless they has aux inputs so i could have my components audio or composites audio run into it. would make less of a wire mess

sound bar is an addon that goes below the monitor

personally. no componant, no extra inputs. sure its bigger but driving games at 1920x1200 is a chore already. I'd rather get another 2405fpw

The 2405fpw is a fantastic monitor, heres What would make it perfect

75hz
Remotecontrol included or just infrared remote capability
Dual Componant Inputs
Dual DVI Inputs(NOT DualLink DVI, just two inputs)
1 VGA
12n1 card reader instead of 9n1
Ability to go from one input to any other without going in sequential order. If VGA isnt in use I shouldnt ever have to go there. *Most important*

also pip that can be positioned anywhere on the screen at anysize, and pip with any inputs (like dvi and vga)

That thing looks hawt. Now to find a video card that will run it.

omg. One DVI Port. No VGA. No S-Video. No Component. What the hell. This LCD could second as a Big Screen TV. Hell its bigger than my 27 CRT Incher right now. How in the hell does it not have those kind of inputs?

shit isn't THAT the truth! I don't know why they didn't just make a separate button for each input... or at least a way of disabling the inputs that are not plugged in

will a card like this work?

bfg 6600gt
Most of ATI's new line of cards come with at least one dual-link DVI port needed for resolutions greater than 1920x1200. Also, all of the nVidia 7800GTX cards and most of the 7800GTs should support the 30" Dell. I use a BFG 7800GTX for my ACD by connecting the display to the primary DVI port, which is dual-link. In addition, nVidia Quadro cards have supported dual-link DVI for quite some time now, as have ATI Fire GL cards.

This LCD also supports the new "protected video pathway" for Windows Vista, is this correct?

Monitor looks like a step down from a 2405fpw. Sure it's bigger but has worse contrast (if the 2405 has high contrast compared to most LCDs I'd rather not see anything worse, it's really bad as it is) + less connectors etc etc. If they charge over $1000 for this thing it will be a rip off.

DUAL link is required for greater than 1920x1200 resolution regarless of what DELL says.

No it won't be overpriced, seeing that its specs (if they're not exaggerated) are equal or superior to the 30" ACD, which is still retailing for at least $2000. The marketplace will dictate the final pricing. Considering that it's probably the same or a very similar panel as the Apple's, I don't expect the image to be that much superior. If you're looking for the highest possible quality picture and performance in a LCD today, look elsewhere. 30-inchers are for power-users desiring the greatest amount of realestate they can get their hands on.

2405 w/ remote = perfect.

:( i want one.

I'm curious... what would a remote do? There is no tuner built in, so a remote would be useless for TV applications, all you would be able to do is switch inputs and turn it on and off....

I'm disappointed that Dell cut out the component, composite and S-video. Doesn't the 2405 have the above 3 inputs?

Do they take trades for body parts as payment for that thing?

I think Dell is talking kidney as down payment, as one pair of lungs and your first born as trade in value for remaining cost. :D

Nvidia added the new dell monitor 30" LCD to their drivers (Beta) probably because Dell uses Nvidia for the most part for their high end systems and XPS line.

Where are you getting this information???!!! Where on the website? So does this mean the monitor is ONLY capable of 2560x1600? You can't adjust the resolution below that???
What the heck?

Yes, and this monitor is also "Unable to view any image". Ever.

Come on now.. use common sense! :D

The body part you'd have to give up would make watching pr0n on it worthless...

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Dell releases two versions of this monitor. The version you see with the only DVI and usb as inputs aimed at businesses who don't want all the extra cost of the inputs. Then there may be a prosumer version that has other inputs such as component (hell maybe even hdmi) for those customers who are going to be using it for more than just a computer monitor.

Disclaimer:
Just a theory, my saying it in no way makes it any more real.

even to just turn it on and off would be nice. i have an hdtv pci card for my comp and it sucks that i can turn off my tv but then i have to go up and manually turn off my monitor.
