Anyone know when the 2709 is due out?

It has just been reviewed by cnet Australia so hopefully not long now?

Looks like this monitor is now available online. Can't seem to figure out what is really different to justify $200 more. I'm tempted to pick up the 2707 at the current price of $799, but can't decide if I want to do a 27" + speakers, or 32" HDTV such as the Toshiba RV530. both would be about $900.

if anyone knows a good reason why the 2707 would be way better than the current HDTV's, assuming I do NOT need to hookup other devices (I don't need HDMI). let me know!

Not sure how legitimate this is, but I found this at their small business store:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&oc=2709WFP

thats not the right monitor if you look closly youl see that its the 2707wfp and also read the url the new 27monitor is called the 2709w and not the 2709wfp

But if you did want to buy it its actually featured in the home or home office section

That depends on what you are using it for, the 2707 would not be so great for TV since the component inputs aren't that good and the DVI input won't accept 1080i. On the other hand, HDTVs don't make for the greatest computer monitors.

Also the price difference between the 2707 and 2709 is only due to the sale price on the 2707 at the Dell website which changes all the time.

If you have a premier account the price difference between the 2707 and 2709 is a mere $50. It's available now.

Does anyone own this monitor? How does it compare to it's 24" little brother??

I'm really interested!!!!

Here is a short review at CNet Australia:

http://www.cnet.com.au/desktops/monitors/0,239029422,339289509,00.htm

It seems input lag has reared its ugly head with this model too. Dell has to get off their respective engineering butts and start shipping monitors without this flaw. If the input lag is being noticed in regular use, it is excessive IMO. Accelerated response time is useless if the display takes noticeable time in responding.

Of course if you aren't a gamer it might be ok, but noticeable input lag is inexcusable for a high-end product like this unless it has incredible image processing.

Has any one bought this monitor yet? i really would like a review on it... split between a 32"full hd tv (but to big to be sitting in front of) or waiting for the insight into this dell 2709w. Will be Pc use and if not mostly PS3 use. You think the lag will be to much?

I just got mine today, so far I haven't noticed any major problems. I don't have a CRT to measure input lag, but the effects of lag seem to be pretty subjective anyway; although I have to say I don't notice any delay in regular windows use.

The main reason I wanted this over the 2707 is because it has a second DVI input. With that I can easily plug in the cable box without using one of the video inputs and the subpar video mode that goes along with them.

I also like the black border on this model more than the 2707, it looks like plastic in pictures, but it actually feels like metal painted a matte black. I'm not so sure about the touch-sensitive interface though.

And who knows, maybe that display port will come in useful someday.

It's good to read some positive feedback about this LCD, considering we only have 1 Cnet review and a person on the Delltalk forums talking about input lag. I have a 2707WFP and have never noticed any of the issues Cnet spoke about (ghosting, artifacts etc.) so hopefully won't see any issues with the 2709. Dell are selling this in Ireland for 630 euro now and with discount I get from a colleage I am looking at paying around 460 euro which isn't bad as I can easily make that on the sale of my 2709.

Has anyone tried the HDMI with the PS3 yet, and does the 5.1 pass thru on this screen work well ?

There is a big review at prad.de

Seems to be a good monitor for a mid-level PVA class. Looks like there is no overscan on HDMI.
Even if it does exist, two DVI will work OK.
One more thorough review is necessary before this monitor gets green light (likely).

47ms or basically 48ms. Which is basically the same as 2405 in lag. Yet another office monitor FTL.

Cheers for that review.
Anyone know how the 47/48ms lag compares with the 2707WFP ?

Also, with no overscan on HDMI does this leave ugly borders/artifacts on the edges of BD movies over PS3 ?

Is the 2707WFP a higher quality panel ?

thanks

No it shouldn't leave artifacts from a PS3. If there are artifacts from a PS3 showing a BluRay movie, it is the monitor itself that is introducing these artifacts. Not sure about other standalone BluRay players though.

Based on Prad.de's smallish screenshot, there doesn't look to be any noise on the PS3 view of "300".

The only monitor that introduces any artifacts (on its own) is the BenQ FP241W/FP241VW. Most others do not. This is manifested by a slight dotted green line at the bottom of the picture going across.

Only with an HD cable box should you see something here, or any other broadcast digital medium, but not BluRay. This is because the HD cable boxes sometimes have subchannel data that is transferred as noise.

My preference is to see the noise and not lose any of the image due to overscan and slight scaling (up), but mileage varies.

I doubt there is a huge difference in panel quality between this and the 2707WFP though I'm just hypothesizing here.

While not enthused with the input lag of the monitor, the passthrough audio connection is intriguing, as this is the first monitor I've seen with this feature. Mostly this is reserved for TVs that allow the passthrough of DD 5.1 from HDMI out through an optical or coaxial SP/DIF or TOS style cable. Pretty cool IMHO.

Regards.
Cheers for that review.

Thanks for the info. I have ordered mine anyway. The input lag according to that German review site does not seem much higher then what TFTCentral reported on the 2707 (45ms), and I have not noticed any issues on the 2707.

I also had a look at the Dell manual online also, and the 2709w has 3x3.5mm output jacks for front speakers, centre/sub and rear speakers - same as a 5.1 soundcard. No documentation on how this works. I assume it takes the audio signal from the HDMI cable and splits it somehow into 3 analog channels. For my PS3, my hope is to plug directly into my Logitech G51 amp from the back of the 2409W. My amp lacks optical input and the PS3 when using HDMI can only pass audio over HDMI or via optical directly.

There is overscan on the HDMI input if the monitor is in "video" mode as opposed to "graphics" mode, the same is true for DVI. The difference is that you can change between video and graphics mode on DVI regardless of the source. On HDMI it seems to automatically set which mode; a computer connected through HDMI will be set to graphics, a cable box will be set to video, not sure about PS3 though.

As was mentioned before, those border artifacts are only present with a cable box, and even then only a few of the standard definition channels show the white noise border along the top.

Anyone have any pics of this monitor. personal pics not ones on the dell site.

i would like to hear some more about this. how is it with gaming, how does it looks. how about movies. its hard to find anything on this monitor. i like the look and price but is it worth a crap..?
